Frizzy strands, a bad haircut – those are just a few of the hair emergencies that can come up during party season. Luckily there are easy ways to keep them from ruining your good time. Hair stylist and salon owner Mario Russo shares six quick hair fixes for your next get together.
The Problem: Stray gray hairs
The Fix: If you are getting ready to go out and notice a few stray gray hairs, use mascara for a temporary fix. Aim for a wide, fat wand and a shade that is closest to your hair color. Apply the mascara generously – but gently – to your roots.
The Problem: In between trims and they are excessive flyaways and split ends.
The Fix: Spray an old toothbrush with hairspray and lightly brush down the frizz. This will keep hair smooth until your next trip to the salon.
The Problem: Frizzy hair while out on the town
The Fix: Use the hand lotion in your purse. Dab a dime size amount into the palms of your hands, rub them together, and then lightly brush your palms over the troubled area. This little bit of “stickiness” is just enough to tame flyaways and frizz, without making your hair greasy.
The Problem: A bad haircut right before a holiday party
The Fix: Wear it wavy! Style your hair using a one-inch barrel curl iron and make sure to curl your locks away from the face. The wavy curls will help disguise any imperfections until you can head back to the salon for a fix.
The Problem: Worried an updo won’t last all night.
The Fix: Turn your bobby pins into sticky bobby pins. Lay the necessary amount of bobby pins onto a paper towel, spray them with either hairspray or dry shampoo, shake the paper towel to evenly distribute the spray, and let them dry for two to three minutes. Then pin away! This trick is especially helpful for those with slippery, straight hair or finer locks.
The Problem: Breakage and frizz during the colder months.
The Fix: Don’t leave the house with wet or damp hair during the winter. The cold weather can cause breakage to wet hair, while frizz is also more apt to happen when you leave your house without having your hair 100% dry. Prevent a bad hair day by simply taking the time to completely dry your hair.
