Sunnyside up egg lovers, listen up! Your days of enjoying a runny egg may be numbered—that is if you want to have gorgeous hair and nails.

Apparently, raw eggs contain a protein called avidin that inhibits the body’s ability to absorb biotion (vitamin B7). A biotin deficiency often shows up in the body in the form of hair loss and even a red, scaly rash on your face and other parts of the body.

Biotin, also known as the hair vitamin, can help make your hair grow faster and stronger—it also does the same for your nails. It’s easy to say that you definitely don’t want to be deficient in this vitamin.

But don’t worry, fully cooking your eggs deactivates avidin and stops it from blocking biotin. If you think you could be deficient, reach for biotin-rich foods like salmon, avocados, mushrooms, cauliflower, soybeans, nuts, raspberries and bananas. It’s also a good idea to consult with your physician to come up with a more personalized plan.
