You’ll Never Guess the Most Fitness-Obsessed State

No, it’s not New York.

When we hear fitness-obsessed, we tend to think of women in Manhattan squeezing in a barre class before work or moms in San Diego doing Pilates before their kids are out of school. So when we saw the list of the most fitness-obsessed states and neither of these topped the list, we were surprised. Pricelisto did a study analyzing average monthly search volume data for multiple phrases, terms and queries related to fitness over the past 12 months to see which states are most interested in it.

Massachusetts took the lead with 1,041 searches per 100,00 people working out to about 713,730 searches a month on average. The east coast absolutely dominated the top 10, with only three states located elsewhere.

Following Massachusetts is Colorado. The Rocky Mountain state is very geared towards wellness, so this doesn’t come as a shock. In third place is New York, followed by its neighbor New Jersey in fourth.

The most searched fitness-related term out of each state was “Planet Fitness,” the country’s largest gym chain. The gym boasts a total of 14,257,400 searches per month on average across the 50 states.
