If you love the look of thick, bold brows but are having trouble achieving them, you may want to give Latisse—the popular prescription product that changed the eyelash game—a try.
“Latisse is safe to use on the eyebrows, although it is considered an off-label use,” says Troy, MI, plastic surgeon Anthony Youn, MD. “Many doctors are testing it on their patients as a way to regrow eyebrows that are overplucked and waxed.”

As Miami dermatologist S. Manjula Jegasothy, MD, explains, Latisse was originally formulated as Lumigan, a glaucoma (increased eye pressure) eye-drop medication. “When it was used for this purpose, more than 10 years ago, many ophthalmologists and patients found that it would grow their eyelashes as well. Allergan then did studies to pursue the effectiveness of Latisse for eyelash growth, which has now been proven. Many board-certified plastic surgeons and dermatologists are now using Latisse to grow eyebrows in the same manner as eyelashes. The mechanism behind this side effect remains unknown, but may have to do with the drug enhancing growth factor levels as well. This remains unproven.”
Dr. Youn does warn that you do need to be careful when applying Latisse, and having a little patience is a plus. “Don’t let it stream down your cheek or place it in areas that you aren’t OK with growing hair. And like Latisse for the eyelashes, results can take six to eight weeks to really appreciate.”
