Hermès Birkin bags are the epitome of luxury, and while snagging one isn't exactly an easy feat (lucky you, if you're a proud owner), we’re pretty confident we found the next best thing: Hermès Barénia Eau de Parfum ($170). The fresh fragrance launched last month and despite its newness, it's already captured the attention of beauty lovers everywhere. It's safe to say it's successfully claimed its status as the It Girl scent for fall: rich, elegant, and undeniably chic.
In an interview with InStyle, Christine Nagel, head perfumer at Hermès, poetically declared the label's latest fragrance as “a perfume of the skin; it’s sensuality,” adding that it's most likely to attract beauty lovers who favor “perfumes that have character.” And character it sure does have. Inspired by Hermès’ iconic Barenia leather, used to craft the legendary Birkin, Kelly, and other famed handbag silhouettes, the fragrance sure does live up to the fashion house’s luxe reputation (without the jaw-dropping price tag).
Barénia is also Hermès’ first chypre fragrance, which means it perfectly blends citrusy top notes (in this case, bergamot and Miracle berry), with earthier base notes of patchouli and oak. Ginger lily adds a soft floral touch as a middle note that ties the multidimensional scent together for a fragrance that’s both fresh and grounding.
The packaging is equally notable. As you can see in the full-size version below, it has Medor studs at the top of the silver detailing on the bottle, as influenced by yet another iconic Hermès accessory: the Collier de Chien bracelet. This luxe design detail is present on both the one-ounce and two-ounce versions, so you don’t need to purchase the full-size bottle to enjoy the complete Hermès aesthetic.
