Gillian Anderson has a new role to add to her resume. The 56-year-old actress, author and activist has just been named the newest global ambassador for L’Oréal Paris.
As reported by WWD, the X-Files actress will star in the beloved makeup brand's Age Perfect campaign, which celebrates and empowers women over 50, though its message of confidence transcends all ages.
“Women are extraordinary—unique, complex, brilliant, beautiful inside and out, at every age,” Anderson said in a statement to WWD. “Yet the conventional narrative surrounding women and aging rarely, if ever, reflects that."
She continued: "L’Oréal Paris has championed women of all ages for decades, and I’m thrilled to join them as they inspire women to break free of stereotypes and put themselves at the center of their own stories."
Anderson is following in the footsteps of some remarkable women—a role she’s no stranger to. “It’s a pretty extraordinary moment to be asked, particularly with the spokeswomen who have gone before and are still working with L’Oréal Paris for decades—Helen Mirren, Jane Fonda and Viola Davis,” she said in an interview with InStyle. “In recent years, I’ve become more outspoken about supporting and empowering women, and that’s certainly at the forefront of what L’Oréal does and represents.”
Beyond the brand’s mission, Anderson is a fan of its products, too. While she loves the Age Perfect skin-care range, she’s just as obsessed with the makeup—especially its mascara. "I don’t feel like my eyes are my eyes unless they’ve got something on them," she recently told Vogueregarding her obsession with L’Oréal Paris Panorama Mascara ($13). "It's unbelievable,” she raved, even admitting that she sometimes sleeps in it. “It’s awful, but I know that I can just apply another layer and it won’t clump!” Relatable.
