Consumers are fed up. We want the truth! How else are we supposed to make an educated decision about which cosmetic and personal-care products to buy?
Two weeks ago we ran a post about a lawsuit filed in California by The Center for Environmental Health alleging that more than two dozen companies were violating the state’s law requiring products labeled “organic” to contain at least 70 percent or more organic ingredients. But California making progress by itself won’t do the trick. We need standards across the board.
That’s why non-profit organization Green Seal is creating a new set. This is the first set of standards that includes the whole life cycle of cosmetic products. What does that mean? It means in order to receive the Green Seal, manufacturers have to adhere to regulations ranging from appropriate facilities, equipment and energy usage to raw materials, production, packaging materials and labeling. Looks like the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We’ll be looking for products with the green seal in the future.
