We’re in an age where more and more people are openly considering and getting cosmetic procedures, from celebrities to our own parents. It’s interesting to consider the common driving forces behind people's desires to pursue aesthetic treatments. Recently, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) asked over 3,000 people what drives them to consider making an appointment for a cosmetic procedure, and the results are illuminating.
Four reasons seemed to be the main drivers for the majority of people when it comes to considering a cosmetic procedure. Unsurprisingly, one reason is the desire to feel more confident. Another contributing reason is people wanting to look as young as they feel or look better for their age. This was most common for people aged 35 to 54.
Another main driver is the desire to appear more attractive, which makes sense as it's essentially the essence of cosmetic procedures. This reason was most common among people aged 25 to 54, covering a large spectrum of ages. Lastly, some people simply want to do something for themselvs or reward themselves with a treatment.
Overall, this survey allows for an interesting glimpse into the minds of Americans considering cosmetic procedures. Many of these main drivers overlap with each other and feel widely relatable for much of the population.
