Selena Gomez has taken over the beauty industry as of late, and not just because of her array of effective, well-loved beauty products, but because of the powerful, important message that is so integral to her brand. Since the get go, Rare Beauty has aimed at empowering users to embrace their rarities and love themselves, with the Rare Impact Fund advocating for mental health awareness at the core of the brand.

Gomez has also always been one to put her money where her mouth is, and consistently takes her brand values and demonstrates them in her day-to-day life. Just last night, in fact, the star took to Instagram to share an important reminder with fans about body image—one many of us, myself especially, were in desperate need of.

Gomez On Body Image: “I’m Proud to Be Who I Am”

Last night, Selena posted an image to her Instagram story, showcasing her teen-to-early-20s body, with the caption “Today, I realized I’ll never look like this again.” For anyone who has gone down the rabbit hole of looking through old pictures of their body and experienced the array of negative emotions that arise as a result of never fully accepting our adult bodies, this post hits deep. But, the celeb’s follow up post serves as an important reminder for all of us who tend to be too judgmental of our bodies on the regular.

Gomez followed the old image with a current photo of her emerging from the ocean and climbing onto a boat, looking fabulous as always, and wrote, “I’m not perfect, but I’m proud to be who I am. Sometimes I forget it’s okay to be me.” If you’re anything like me, the sentiment was chill-inducing, as it’s so easy to forget to be kind to ourselves and meet our current selves—mind, body and soul—exactly where we are.
