It’s Rihanna’s world; we’re just living in it. In step with the monumental success of Fenty Beauty, the singer has announced the launch of the brand’s debut fragrance, aptly named Fenty Eau de Parfum.

Equal parts vibrant, sensual, sweet and spicy, the genderless fragrance bottles the very essence of Rihanna. Memories from the singer’s childhood, along with locations close to her heart—Barbados, New York, Paris and Los Angeles—inspired the notes found inside for a scent that’s distinctly personal yet universally approachable. “That’s the thing I love most,” says Rihanna in a press release. “It’s an experience, it’s a memory, encapsulated into a fragrance. One smell, you’ll never forget it.”

To create the fragrance, the singer jetted off to the fragrance capital of the world, Grasse, France, to work alongside world-renowned LVMH master perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud. After countless hours in the garden (she personally selected each ingredient in its purest form) and endless note combinations, the pair decided on the ultimate Rihanna-approved cocktails of magnolia and musk with tangerine, blueberry and Bulgarian rose absolute, and geranium and patchouli, a combination Cavallier-Belletrud describes as “a one-of-a-kind scent that is all heart and pure soul.”

According to the brand, Rihanna was involved in every last detail of the fragrance’s creation, and even had a very specific idea in mind for the bottle. “She wanted something timeless, something brown, but with a light inside,” Cavallier-Belletrud explained on a recent Zoom call announcing the parfum. “I wanted a rich color that really represented all genders from across all walks of life,” said Rihanna. “Brown is my favorite color. Brown is who I am. Brown is what I come from,” she continues. “If I’m going to make a fragrance that represents me, even the body language of the bottle needs to marry that. So, I wanted something brown, but also transparent—so you could see the liquid and the fragrance you’re about to experience.” As Cavallier-Belletrud so aptly described, the fragrance is “full of joy, optimism. It’s like music.”

Fenty Eau de Parfum ($120) will be available exclusively at fentybeauty.com on Tuesday, August 10.
