The Products a Beauty Editor’s Partner Actually Uses

The Products a Beauty Editor’s Partner Actually Uses featured image

When you live with a beauty editor, you have unlimited access to all the best products. While some men are resistant to skin care, all the best ones know it’s the key to aging well. My partner didn’t shy away from skin care when I offered it, but he wasn’t knowledgeable about all the intricacies. At first, he’d ask me to replicate my nightly skin-care routine on him. He’d lay in bed as I layered on serum, eye cream and moisturizer. After trying many of the skin-care products I have, he’s found what he actually likes and what his skin responds to. Now, he has his own little routine. If you’re trying to get your partner on a skin-care regimen, gift them these products and watch them become obsessed.

Perricone MD Cold Plasma Plus Advanced Serum Concentrate ($150)

Such a large part of getting men into skin care is the sensorial experience. The clay-like texture and cool feeling of this serum concentrate has my partner hooked. He has even politely asked that I stop using it so he can have it all to himself. I also can’t help but speculate that something about the gray hue signals to men that it’s more masculine. Whatever has drawn him in, I’m thankful for it because this product helps with fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, dullness, uneven texture and more.

Shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick SPF 50+ ($29)

As a person on the paler side and someone who surfs multiple times a week, my partner is big on sunscreen. (We literally have an Igloo cooler full of sunscreens we take to the beach with us every time we go.) However, he’s made his favorites clear. The format of the Shiseido stick is a game-changer, and the fact that it goes on clear means no white cast to worry about.

Image Skincare Vital C Hydrating Facial Cleanser ($36)

I was using this cleanser in the shower for a while and noticed I ran through the bottle rather quickly. One day when it was finished, he immediately asked if I had another. He’d been using it daily himself. The creamy, hydrating texture feels good going on, and the scent of orange peel is the perfect wake-up call.

Kusshi Dopp Kit ($99)

Men will go on using the same dopp kit they got in high school for their entire life without thinking twice about it. If you’re less lucky they may just tote around a Ziploc bag with their toothbrush and razor in it. Once my partner transferred all of his things over to a fresh Kusshi Dopp Kit, everything immediately looked and felt more organized and clean.

Harry’s Razors ($15-$20)

Women have fallen in love with direct-to-consumer razor brands like Billie and Flamingo over the past few years, and now men get a turn to make their shaving routines simpler. My partner recently switched over to Harry’s Razors from his previous drugstore brands, and it’s made a huge difference. Also worth noting, when there was a hiccup with shipping, their customer service was great.

Dr. Jart Pore Remedy 5% Multi-Acid Radiance Peel ($40)

Pores are one of my peskiest skin concerns, so I’m always trying to find something to refine their appearance. Using this peel a few times a week has become a ritual for us as we’re both trying to have more better pores to prevent blackheads and other buildup. He did note that it burns a little, but I think that makes him feel like it’s really working.

CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion ($16)

Before he got to try all the newest products, this was a staple in his bathroom, and it still is. Men love a two-in-one, and this is one of the only ones I can get behind. This face and body lotion is a cult classic for a reason. It hydrates skin without upsetting the skin barrier for those with sensitive or acne-prone skin.
