Dog treats and streetwear may not be totally synonymous, but add actress Nina Dobrev to the mix and you have yourself some serious style. Timed perfectly for National Dog Month, starting today, pet parents can purchase a functional—yet fashionable—line of products via a collab with Milk-Bone and streetwear brand OnlyNY. The collection includes dog collars, a cross-body bag with built-in treat pockets, waste bag dispensers and a T-shirt and, as Dobrev shared with us, the partnership was an “organic” thing to do—and it seems her four-legged sidekick, Maverick, who joined her for the interview, agrees.
Why this partnership?
I mean, the star of the show is right next to me. She’s the reason. She’s my world. She’s my baby. I don’t have any kids, but it’s safe to say I consider her my child. When I got her, I was using Milk-Bone to train her—she’s very food-motivated, and she loved the treats. It got her to sit, lay down, roll over, everything! She knows a lot of party tricks, which we pull out when I have people over. But, yes, it just felt like a very organic thing for me to combine both—especially when they told me that they were doing a partnership with OnlyNY, which is an awesome brand.
And it’s safe to assume you’re into fashion, too?
Yes! I love fashion, and I love functionality, and the line that they came up with for the dog stuff is really cool. Maverick is wearing the collar right now and it comes with this awesome leash. It’s really strong—it doesn’t just look cool, it actually works. Red is her color, and it happens to be my color, too, so I really love it.
A big part of having a dog is walking a dog. Does that play into your overall fitness routine?
We travel a ton and Maverick comes with me everywhere. Whether it’s New York or LA or somewhere else, being with her is great exercise for me. It’s obviously important exercise for her, too. It’s a great way to get out of the house and have a moment to decompress. I like to put on some music while I walk her, and it’s kind of like a meditation and a great bonding moment for us.
Not to completely shift, but we have to ask: What are you into beauty-wise right now?
There are some products that I really love for the summer. And I just cut bangs! So, I’ve been using the Kevin Murphy’s spray in my hair. Selena Gomez has her Rare Beauty highlighter and it is amazing. I’ve been mixing it into my foundation to get a glow, but I also love putting it all over my skin, too. It’s really a great body makeup as well.
