Not every aspect of your beauty routine needs to be a 10-step process. While we love bangs and other somewhat needy hairstyles sometimes, especially in the summer, we want a more low-maintenance haircut that still looks chic, but with minimal effort.
“Chic yet low-maintenance haircuts are something I always strive to achieve for my clients. I love creating cuts that look effortless every day with minimal upkeep,” says celebrity hairstylist Marc Ballance. “The key is designing a shape that grows out seamlessly, so your hair looks just as good weeks later as it did on day one.”
We’ve curated a list of some of the experts’ favorite chic yet low-maintenance haircuts that are on trend right now. “These styles work with your natural texture, not against it, enhancing movement and shape without requiring constant styling,” says Ballance. “The result? Hair that looks polished yet effortless—beautiful, wearable, and easy to manage at home.”

Lob
“If you want something sleek and sharp, the blunt lob is it. It hits right at the collarbone with zero layers for that ultra-polished, glassy finish,” says celebrity hairstylist Rodger Azadganian. “It’s bold, it’s powerful, and it frames the face like a dream. Perfect for anyone wanting low-maintenance with high impact.” He notes adding a finishing product like AZ Elixir Nourishing Oil ($60).
While Azadganian recommends a blunt lob without layers, Ballance likes a lob with face-framing layers, so you can choose your own adventure.

Long layers
Ballance recommends long layers for those seeking a low-maintenance haircut that still has style. The layers are essential here because they add an element of movement and dimension that long hair can easily lack.

Modern shag
Ballance loves a shoulder-length shag moment. “This cut is all about texture and movement. Think lots of layers, curtain bangs or longer fringe and that ‘I woke up like this’—but with intention,” says Azadganian. It looks great air-dried and grows out well so you don’t have to get a trim every four weeks, he adds.

Pixie cut
If you’re jealous of how easy many of the men in your life have it when it comes to hair, we say if you can’t beat them join them. Ballance says both a soft pixie cut (pictured) or a strong pixie cut are both low-maintenance and super chic. Plus, they’re certainly having a moment with stars like Emma Stone and Brie Larson sporting them.

French bob
Chic and low-maintenance collide in this trending haircut Ballance suggests trying this season. For many the French bob only requires a bit of air-dry product and you’re good to go.
