Soon, your Louis Vuitton-monogrammed cosmetics bag will have the perfect matching contents. As revealed to Vogue, the French fashion house is making its highly anticipated debut in the makeup world this fall with La Beauté Louis Vuitton—and at the helm is none other than legendary makeup artist Dame Pat McGrath, who has been named the luxury label’s creative director of cosmetics.
“Working backstage for over 20 years at Louis Vuitton fashion shows, I am thrilled to now play such a key role in the launch of La Beauté Louis Vuitton, which is the result of extraordinary craftmanship, creativity and innovation,” McGrath said in a statement. “The beauty universe is about so much more than just product, and what we are creating here will unlock a new level in luxury beauty.”
For now, Louis Vuitton is keeping the details under wraps, only teasing images of swatches embossed with its signature monogram. But Vogue managed to get some inside intel. According to the outlet, the collection will include 55 (!) lipsticks, 10 tinted lip balms, eight eyeshadow quads, and, in true Louis Vuitton fashion, a lineup of “small leather goods” to hold the products, including lipstick cases and mini trunks. Chic!
That’s all McGrath would reveal for now, though she did offer a beautifully cryptic gimpse into what we can expect from the packaging and shade lineup. “It’s about the art of living,” she continued. “It’s the textures of the leathers, the colours from the collections, the codes of the house—these have all been springboards to the imagination and every detail has been considered with the same level of artistry as the maison’s most legendary creations.”
And if that wasn’t enough to get luxury fashion and beauty afecionados buzzing, McGrath made one final thing clear: “This is just the beginning,” she teased, adding that she and Louis Vuitton are “setting a new standard in luxury beauty.” Stay tuned for more details.
