Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Kyle Richards might not have an automatic association with age-old acne brand Clearasil, but that’s exactly who the 49-year-old is teaming up with this spring. Helping to promote the brand’s #BelowtheSurface campaign—the idea that parents should not only encourage their children to “go below the surface” when it comes to treating acne, but also engage with them on what’s truly bothering them (e.g. social media, peer pressures, etc.)—the mother of four recently sat down with us to discuss why she’s a big believer in the new message and always on tap for testing out all things beauty.

Behind the collaboration: “I was really flattered Clearasil even asked me. It’s such an iconic brand. I used it as a kid, my kids used it. It’s something I’ve always had—like shampoo or soap. It’s something I would always pick up at the drugstore. It’s a product I trust.”

On stressing sunscreen: “I’m very into my girls using sunscreen and moisturizer every day. They have olive skin, and I have very white, very Irish skin, which can actually lend itself to more breakouts. I am on top of them to keep up with their regimens, because if it gets too out of hand, it’s a lot of work to reverse the damage.”

My current beauty problem: “I like to see immediate results! I love immediate gratification, but I also know these things take time. Luckily, I don’t really get breakouts anymore, besides the occasional hormonal acne. Right now, wrinkles are my biggest problem!”

In-flight fix: “When I fly, I do a whole routine on my skin, but I don’t put on any makeup besides mascara and then some ChapStick. Then I put eye cream on throughout the flight because I get so dry. As we get closer to landing, I start to add on some more!”

Treatment I recently tried: “I just did microneedling. I’m a big fan. I have to say, I noticed results. It was a little creepy at first because they drew my blood and I absolutely HATE needles, but they numbed up my face. I liked the results I saw—my pores looked smaller, my fine lines looked better.”

For the love of lasers: “I’m all about lasers. I don’t want to have to have a facelift one day, and I don’t really like the way fillers look, so I feel like lasers help prevent these things. The hardest part for me is deciding which one to get! There are so many!”
