There’s no shortage of mega glam on the red carpet at the 2021 Met Gala tonight, which is themed “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” to celebrate The Costume Institute’s exhibition in New York. Perfectly in line with the theme is Oscar-winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson, who is donning a bright-red, mermaid-shaped AZ Factory gown. But it’s not just about the fashion; we’re zeroed in on the glowing skin, bold makeup and more. Here’s the scoop on Hudson’s look.
Celebrity makeup artist Ernesto Casillas prepped Jennifer Hudson’s skin for a full week before tonight’s event. “I used QMS Medicosmetics to prep Jennifer’s skin,” he says. “It’s a German brand new to the U.S. that I love for red-carpet skin prep. The products are bovine collagen–focused, which makes them work so well to protect the skin before applying makeup, and to keep it super plumped and hydrated!”
To achieve Hudson’s overall glow, Casillas first used QMS’s Deep Gentle Cleanser and Hydrating Boost to clean and tone her skin before he began to prep. “First I applied the Day Collagen Serum over her entire face, even over the eye because it absorbs so quickly! After that, I applied more collagen on top, this time the Collagen Serum in Oil for extra hydration. It’s incredible because of the lightweight feel and deep hydration. Definitely a staple for skin prep and a product I’d use every day.”
Apply after applying the collagen serums, Casillas used the Advanced Collagen Eye Lift, which he gently pushed into the under-eye area and left on for 15 to 20 minutes to awaken and lift her eyes. “I also encouraged Jen to use the QMS 7 Day Collagen Concentrate. After about a month of using their collagen serums, the 7 Day system is super concentrated and will provide an extra boost of hydration after her skin has been through so much heavy makeup! It’s like going to a facialist daily. I also used the Power Firm Mask—a great way to prep skin for makeup. On top of all the collagen serums, I used the QMS ACE Moisturizer, and then we were ready for makeup!”
For makeup, Casillas used Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, keeping the whole look very “classic glam,” with a focus on a statement red lip: the brand’s best-selling Luxe Matte Lip Color in Red Carpet. He also lined them with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Sangria for full coverage and definition. “I used the QMS Lip Line Corrector before I applied the lip color too, which is formulated and designed to hydrate and plump lips for a smoother canvas for a red lip.”
