As a judge on the Emmy-winning series Top Chef for the past 20 seasons, Gail Simmons knows a thing or two about food. “My makeup artist and I will tell you: The hardest thing is keeping on the lip color when you’re eating that much,” the 47-year-old shares. “That and burning off the calories after we wrap!” Here’s what makes her “do” list.
Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser ($34) and Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser ($36)
“Drunk Elephant makes a great product called Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser. Their ingredients are very well-sourced. I also use their Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser when I am on-camera; I find it’s the only thing that gets all the makeup off my eyes. It’s literally like putting butter on your face!”
“Recently, I’ve been obsessed with the entire Skinfix line. I have the eye cream, the serum and the face moisturizer. I really love how my skin feels after applying them.
“I have quite fine hair, and I love Ouai. They have a shampoo and a conditioner for thin hair. I love how all the products smell, but I also find that it makes my hair really manageable; I also use their volume spray.”
ColorWow Dream Coat ($32)
“ColorWow makes this product called Dream Coat. It’s an anti-frizz treatment that I spray on my hair when I’m in production. When I am going on camera a lot—and my hair is getting blown out daily—my hair gets dry and this really helps.”
“Moving my body—whether it’s walking, taking a class, doing Pilates, or running for a few miles—is key, wherever I am. Even if it’s a two-mile run, it helps me so much mentally and physically. That’s a big part of my overall routine—especially since I am consuming so many calories on my job!”
EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 ($43)
“I burn really easily and I swear by EltaMD SPF. I think it’s a really great broad-spectrum, mineral sunscreen.
“The bane of my existence is my puffy eyes. I can’t quite build up the energy to do anything drastic about it right now, but there’s nothing more relaxing and needed in the mornings than treating my puffy eyes with a big roller and some good patches.”
“I use Armani Luminous Silk Foundation ($69), and I use a lot of Charlotte Tilbury products. I love her concealers, and my favorite is the Beautiful Skin Concealer ($33). I love Laura Mercier, too— especially her Caviar Stick ($33) shadows. They are classic.
