Expressive Features: The Ideal Brows

Eyes come in hundreds of different sizes and shapes, but, if they are uneven in position or downturned, you may appear tired or even sad. The brows frame the eyes, but if they are too low, they can make you look upset and old. Altering their position can positively change the overall look of your eyes.

Eyebrows should be aligned with each other and arch slightly as they extend outward. “They should arch at about two-thirds of the way from the nose,” says West Orange, NJ, plastic surgeon Richard Swift, MD. The brow should sit just above the eye socket bone. The tail should be higher than the inside part of the brow.

A browlift can reposition eyebrows that are too low and bring them back to a more natural point (most browlifts are performed to correct brows that are too low—brows that are naturally too high are a rare occurrence). By lifting just the tail end of the brow, the brows are elevated ever so slightly, which leads to a sexier shape and look. The procedure, which can give more of an arch, may also fix eyebrows that are asymmetrical.
