If you want a masterclass in rocking a baby bump on the red carpet, look no further than Skai Jackson’s appearance at The Man in the White Van premiere in LA this week. Gorgeous and glowing, as the former Disney star told us, she took “a hands-off approach” and let her trusted glam squad do their thing. “They are the artists!” she says. “I am just the canvas!”
Trusted Team
“I’ve been working with my glam team for years now, so they just know what to do!” says Jackson. “We all sit down and come up with what hair and makeup look we want to go for. It’s really nice having a team that works hard—and makes me look amazing every time! They are wonderful to work with.”
Pregnancy Picks
Jackson shares that she’s changed her getting-ready routine a lot during pregnancy. “My skin-care routine is pretty simple. I use Rhode products and really like those. For makeup, I barely do anything anymore! Just some eyebrow gel, lip gloss, a little concealer and that’s it. Being pregnant has made me do less, but it made me realize less is better! My routine has definitely changed…in a good way.”
The Constants
Trustworthy, Jackson is. “I let my team use whatever products they want but there are always two I have to have: My Cantu Shea Oil Spray and Edge Control and, for makeup, my chestnut lip liner by MAC. For everything else, I let my glam team choose. I try to let them do whatever they think is best for my look. They are the artist; I’m the canvas! I basically leave everything to the pros. If you let me do it, I’m going to mess it up, or it’s just not going to be the same. So, I just leave it to them!”
Golden Girl
“The goal of my look was to do something that honestly makes me feel good and effortless,” says Jackson. “I love a good, messy updo, so that’s what we went for and for the glam, I wanted something bronzy-90s style, but still modern. I’ve never worn anything brown on a carpet before, I don’t think, so I wanted to try something new and I think it goes great with the gold jewelry.”
The Main Event
While Jackson’s bump and the beauty notes were both A-plus, the actress stresses that she can’t wait for everyone to see Man In The White Van. “It’s based on a true story from the ’70s. I hope that after seeing this film, everyone remembers to always be aware of your surroundings! I also hope it reminds parents to listen to their children when they are telling you something is going on. We get to tell the story of the victim rather than focusing on the killer and that’s what I love most about this film.”
Post-Notes
After a big red carpet, what Jackson craves most is some rest. “I get right in the bed with my dogs, King Oti and Miss Oottie. I may grab a little snack like frozen blueberries—those have been my craving literally every day—and put on a movie, but I don’t even last 30 minutes. I fall right asleep!
