Originating in France during the 1700s, Rococo was a set of artistic and architectural motifs famous for their romanticism and drama. In art, the era was filled with playfulness and whimsy, depicting the fanciful and extravagant. Fashion, on the other hand, was defined by voluminous skirts and towering powdered wigs, both boasting intricate embellishments.
Filled to the brim with light and airy themes, the preferred look of the time was a powdered, porcelain look with blurred touches of blush and lip rouge. If Marie Antoinette comes to mind, you’re right on target.
The Modern Rococo Revival
If you’ve been watching the trends as closely as we have, you might notice that the Rococo revival has a lot in common with coquette and balletcore. And you’re right! From pastels and frills to ultra-femininity and ornamentation, the Rococo trend is a natural evolution. These previous trends explored the world of delicate and intentional feminine touches, and Rococo brings a touch of gold along for the ride.
And, of course, there’s the latest release from the iconic Flower Knows, the Violet Strawberry Rococo collection ($95). This launch is right in line with the 2025 trend predictions and leans on the brand’s well-known artistic packaging.
We Predict a Rise in Rococo Nails
For our manicures, the Rococo revival means an embrace of filigree, ornamentation and painted designs. Think pastel bouquets and fluffy clouds, painterly gradients and gold embellishments. It is a change from the minimal nail trends we’ve seen, including the ever-popular naked mani. Instead, this mani trend is all about your nails as art.
