In a fun exchange on The Drew Barrymore Show, Kate Hudson spilled her secret to protecting her hands from the damaging sun. As Drew Barrymore and her guest Michelle Pfeiffer engaged in a game of Truth or Dare, a dare led them to cheekily FaceTime Hudson. Caught in the act of driving, Hudson, wearing a pair of chic gloves, showed her commitment to preventing sunspots.
While showing off her scarlet fingerless driving gloves, Hudson said they have an anti-aging purpose. “No sunspots on my hands,” she proudly declared.
“I’ve been looking at those,” said Pfeiffer, before playfully teasing that sunspots were still possible. “Well you will get some in that little circle,” she joked about the glove’s cutout design.
Stylish Protection
Sun damage to the hands while driving is a significant concern due to the exposure to UVA rays, which can penetrate car windows. Research shows that UVA rays, which can cause skin damage and contribute to skin cancer, are not fully blocked by most car windows, especially the driver’s side.
Sunspots while driving are a real concern, and Kate Hudson’s proactive approach offers a fashionable solution say our dermatologist experts. Hands are often neglected, and prolonged sun exposure during driving can lead to sunspots and premature aging. “At a glance, hands can be quick giveaways of aging and sun-damage, because they do not get the same protection and attention that most of us automatically give to our faces on a daily basis, says Bloomfield Hills, MI dermatologist Linda C. Honet, MD. “Let’s be honest and admit that our poor hands are often neglected. However, a simple, no-fuss way of protecting our hands from the sun’s damaging rays is to wear driving gloves. Not only are they reusable, not messy, easily accessible, and economical, but they also can make a huge difference in helping to slow down some of the telltale signs of aging skin on the hands.”
“I am a huge advocate for wearing UPF 50 gloves to protect the hands from chronic sun damage that occurs while driving! I love the gloves from Solbari,” adds Southlake, TX and Monroe, LA dermatologist Janine Hopkins, MD. “Every day I advise my patients to use daily sun protection, especially while driving in the car to protect their skin from the harmful effects of chronic sun exposure that leads to wrinkles, brown spots and skin cancer.”
