When Tina Craig launches a new product, it’s not without some patience and the utmost level of self-described “pickiness.”

The founder of U Beauty—coming in with a total of three, well-curated products before this latest launch—prides herself on a simplified skin-care routine, one that includes the body-centric “Shapewear for your arms,” The Sculpt Arm, which hit earlier this year, as well as the cult-fave, vitamin C–packed Resurfacing Compound, and mega-moisturizer, The Super Hydrator.

And the next, only natural skin-saving step: The Multimodal Defender Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($168), a zinc-based, vitamin C–fueled, hyaluronic acid–packed sunscreen that suits all skin tones and provides a long list of additional benefits, while not being without some rounds. (The brand shares they’ve never spent more money on R&D and clinicals on any other SKU to date—and this one took more than three years of rigorous testing and 14-plus formulations to get perfectly right.)

“Each and every product I create fills a void, solves multiple problems and delivers beneficial results that are science-proven and technology-driven. The Multimodal Defender is a revolutionary treatment unlike anything you or I have ever usedit belongs in its own new, novel skin-care category,” Craig says, adding that her goal with making this product was to address UVA, UVB, IR (infrared), and HEV (blue light) exposure. “But I knew it’s equally important to treat heat-activated inflammation, photodamage and hyperpigmentation at the same time. This is a problem a lot of us are experiencing, because there are just too many tools and procedures that might incidentally cause hyperpigmentation.”

Like with all U Beauty offerings, the formula is a first of its kind, thanks to what Craig pegs as five modes of benefits: “First, thanks to the new SUN-SIREN, an illuminating ester, melanin synthesis is inhibited to combat hyperpigmentation, sunspots, melasma and mottled complexions. Next, the original SIREN Capsule delivers anti-aging ingredients like vitamins C and E, hyaluronic acids, peptides and antioxidants exactly where they’re supposed to go—and nowhere they’re not. The SIRENS also attract free radicals like a magnet, effectively controlling and neutralizing the damage cascade. All-natural zinc oxide offers vascular protection and superior broad-spectrum and heat defense, working in synergy with the SUN-SIREN to accelerate skin-brightening.”

“Finally, it serves as a hydrating emollient for a boosted barrier function, which results in renewed, supple skin.”

In non-formula speak, that translates into a super silky cream that goes on like a luxe hydrator, while delivering an instant glow and some serious spot–reducing power when you stick with it.

“The fact that it also brightens, cools, visibly increases collagen production, and more, means it’s a true multitasker,” Craig adds. “It’s going to change the way we think about our old SPF products.”
