Philosophy

Few surgeons combine innovation, artistry and warmth quite like Savannah-based plastic surgeon Dr. Meghan K. McGovern. As the founder of RenewalMD, she has built a solo practice defined by trust, long-term relationships and transformative results. A graduate of the University of Virginia with a BA in chemistry and an MD from its School of Medicine, Dr. McGovern completed a rigorous combined plastic surgery residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital. She blends a scientific mind with an artist’s eye, especially when it comes to facial rejuvenation, her signature focus. Her patented technique for restoring upper facial volume exemplifies her ethos: to deliver natural, graceful results that leave patients looking like the best version of themselves—never overdone. “I want my patients to feel like refreshed, confident versions of themselves,” she says. “The best outcomes are ones where it looks like I was never there.”

A Minute With

  1. What trends are you seeing in your practice?

Patients are increasingly looking for subtle, natural enhancements that highlight their unique features rather than drastically altering their appearance. There’s a growing demand for combination procedures, where surgical and non-surgical treatments are tailored to achieve comprehensive results.

  2. What procedures are you best known for?

Facial rejuvenation and mommy makeovers top the list. My ability to deliver personalized care with exceptional results makes these my most sought-after offerings.

  3. What makes your practice unique?

I’ve developed a proprietary method for nonsurgical facial rejuvenation that not only restores volume to the upper third of the face but also rebalances facial harmony. This innovation is a game-changer for patients seeking dramatic yet natural results without surgery.

  4. What do you love most about being a plastic surgeon?

What I love most is the variety and artistry involved in plastic surgery. It’s about restoration, understanding anatomy, and working with precision to create natural, beautiful outcomes. I also value the growing community of women in the field, as we share techniques, encourage one another, and push boundaries together. It’s an honor to be part of something so dynamic and impactful.

  5. What’s your approach to patient safety?

Safety is at the core of every decision I make. As a board-certified surgeon, I adhere to rigorous training and continued education. I operate in an accredited ambulatory surgery center and prioritize cleanliness, sterile techniques, and thoughtful pacing. Whether it’s surgery or non-surgical treatments, I take every step to ensure comfort and relaxation through numbing creams, Pronox (laughing gas), and patient monitoring during treatment.

  6. What’s the most common medical myth you hear?

One of the most persistent myths I encounter is the belief that non-surgical treatments such as fillers and Botox make people look unnatural. Done correctly, these treatments enhance your features subtly, complementing your natural beauty rather than altering it. It’s not about looking different; it’s about looking refreshed and the best version of yourself.

  7. How do you manage patient expectations?

Clear communication is at the heart of managing expectations. I educate my patients about my philosophy, techniques, and timeline for results, ensuring they feel informed and supported throughout the process. I monitor their recovery, share early results, and provide an open line of communication through follow-ups and our after-hours support. My patients always know that their well-being is my top priority.

  8. What surgical advancement excites you most right now?

The advancements in brachioplasty (arm lift) and thigh lift techniques are genuinely exciting. What used to be among the more challenging procedures, with unpredictable healing, has now evolved into a much more refined, reliable process. The results are outstanding, and I enjoy being able to offer these surgeries with confidence in both recovery and outcomes.

  9. What’s new at your practice?

I am thrilled to offer microcoring technology with platforms such as Ellacor and UltraClear. This innovative approach allows for nonsurgical skin tightening and refining, providing patients with exceptional results without the downtime of traditional surgery.

  10. Why do you embrace a less-is-more approach?

Helping patients feel comfortable in their own skin is my ultimate goal. Aging gracefully means different things to different people, and I strive to tailor every approach to suit individual preferences. Whether through gradual changes over time or more comprehensive treatments, I want my patients to feel like refreshed, confident versions of themselves. The best outcomes are ones where it looks like I was never there.
