We at NewBeauty have a pretty well-documented and ongoing appreciation for treatments that turn back the hands of time (and the sun’s rays) without requiring a huge amount of downtime. For the most part, a variety of in-office laser and tightening treatments meet these requirements, constantly leaving us looking refreshed and coming back for more. Generally speaking, these types of treatments have garnered a following obsessed with shaving years off of their appearances, but as it turns out, certain generations aren’t alone. Iggy Azalea, 26, recently shared a photo of herself right before receiving a radio frequency treatment at the office of her go-to plastic surgeon, Ashkan Ghavami, MD, leaving many spectators wide-eyed and curious.

“Just being a little weirdo getting laser beams shot into my head and stuff,” Azalea’s caption read, though many couldn’t focus on anything other than the grid lines on her face. According to Salt Lake City, UT, plastic surgeon Renato Saltz, MD, the marks guide the actual Thermage treatment around the face. “This grid is very important when it comes to achieving symmetrical skin-tightening results,” he explains.

Dr. Ghavami included the hashtag “#Thermage” on his photo of Azalea’s treatment, further elaborating that the treatment is designed to build up skin collagen and elasticity. Thermage, a noninvasive skin-tightening treatment, has gained popularity throughout the years for its ability to visibly firm skin in as little as 45 minutes (it can also be used on the neck and body for relatively quick contouring) with little to no downtime. According to the brand, you’ll only need one treatment to start seeing results in as little as one day. As for the procedure itself, you can expect warmth, a vibrating sensation and cooling bursts to keep skin comfortable. After the treatment, your complexion may look slightly red, but for the most part, you’ll be able to resume your normal activities immediately after. “There’s typically no recovery time or special follow-up care,” the website explains. Thermage has long been considered to be the preferred treatment among dermatologists and plastic surgeons alike for creating more collagen and tightening and smoothing the skin, and if it delivers a smooth-as-silk complexion like Azalea’s or Gwyneth Paltrow’s, there’s no wonder why it’s such a big hit.
