Delivering a high-touch approach to patient care, Drs. Jennifer Segal and Scott H. Smith have a keen understanding of the latest technologies, but only choose to employ them if they consider them a “win” with a “wow” factor. According to Dr. Segal, knowing when to integrate the next best thing is important. “We won’t implement a novel technology—whether it’s a filler, laser, tightening device, or skin-care product—just because it’s new. We’ll do so because it works and it’s the best way to address our patients’ concerns. Above all, it needs to be safe. Patient safety is key, and we won’t use anything on a patient that we wouldn’t use on ourselves or a family member.”

About My Practice:
Why is it an exciting time to be in dermatology?
Through innovation and research, we are changing the way people age. Dermatology offers a full spectrum of products and treatments for all types of people, at any age or any stage of life. Because of our better understanding of how the face ages, we have the ability to restore a patient’s “best self” without making them look like someone else.
How are skin-care regimens integral to your practice?
Skin care is a passion of mine, and all of my patients receive a personalized skin-care regimen. I have worked with top skin-care brands, and I get especially excited about products that promote skin health and beauty.
How do you make patients feel comfortable in your care?
In addition to the personal care each patient receives, we have created an inviting, soothing clinical environment that includes treatment rooms with modern, clean lines and innovative, state-of-the-art technology.
About Me:
What made you want to manage your own dermatology practice?
I enjoy taking care of my patients in a comprehensive manner that combines excellence in skin care with a high-touch approach. My patients inspire me every day, and my staff and I are dedicated to making sure our patients feel well cared for.
Why are you passionate about skin cancer research?
I have always been passionate about cancer research and therapy, and recently lost a family member to melanoma. As a dermatologist, I am in a unique position to educate people about sun safety in a more personal way, and to help prevent and treat all types of skin cancer.
How is education important to you?
I truly enjoy educating my patients about their skin care and health, whether it’s about how to protect and care for their skin, or about the aesthetic treatment options and products that are available. Skin-care and aesthetic “maintenance” involve a multidisciplinary approach. I tell my patients that healthy skin is the goal, and beautiful skin is the perk!

About Me
Tried-And-True Yet Cutting Edge
Dr. Segal is a “tried-and-true” type of doctor—one who has a keen understanding of the latest technologies, but only chooses to add them to her practice if she considers them a “win” with a “wow” factor. According to the doctor, knowing when to integrate the next best thing is important. “We won’t implement a novel technology—whether it’s a filler, laser, tightening device, or skin-care product—just because it is new. We’ll do so because it really works and it’s the best way to address our patients’ aesthetic and health concerns. Above all, it needs to be safe. Patient safety is key, and we won’t use anything on a patient that I wouldn’t use on myself or a family member.”

FAQ's
Q. What do you enjoy about treating acne and rosacea?
What our experts say:
Dr. Segal: I love to treat acne and rosacea because it makes such a big difference for my patients when they can feel confident about how they look. I use standard medical therapies in addition to chemical peels and Isolaz®, which provides amazing results. Acne and sensitive skin conditions affect so many people, and I enjoy being able to provide helpful solutions.
Q. What do you enjoy about treating submental fullness/double chin with Kybella?
What our experts say:
Dr. Smith: Non-surgical treatments for the neck and jawline are making great strides. This zone often has a significant genetic component and is a source of frustration for many patients who have tried diet/exercise and are not willing or able to undergo neck surgery. Kybella (deoxycholic acid) is FDA-approved for fat reduction under the chin. A series of injections helps to permanently remove fat cells and to define the jawline. Ongoing studies are investigating the use of Kybella in other areas of the body with unwanted fat – stay tuned!
Q. What do you enjoy about laser hair removal?
What our experts say:
Dr. Smith: I’ve been interested in LASER since I was a medical student at Harvard. LASER development and research were pioneered by Harvard affiliated dermatologists, and my final 4th year talk was on the physics behind LASER hair reduction. Most people have unwanted hair somewhere and would rather not have the annoying maintenance of shaving/plucking/waxing. Patient satisfaction is extremely high and our office is fortunate to have a hair reduction LASER that is safe for all skin types.
Q. What do you enjoy about treating hyperhidrosis?
What our experts say:
Dr. Smith: Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, affects more people than you might realize. It can lead to significant impairment of one’s day-to-day quality of life. New treatment options continue to emerge for the various types of hyperhidrosis (underarm/axillary, hands/palmar, feet/plantar, generalized) and the International Hyperhidrosis Society website is a great resource for patients. With successful treatment, my hyperhidrosis patients are often my happiest patients. This is particularly true for those who have palmar hyperhidrosis since it affects so many daily activities. Treating the underarm area is immensely popular with brides/grooms-to-be and with those wanting to preserve their expensive/delicate garments.
