“Never stop getting better.”
Philosophy
For Dr. Evan S. Garfein, every successful outcome begins with an honest conversation. “For elective procedures, there is never a rush,” he says. “I like to take all the time necessary to make sure that when we're going to the operating room, we are both completely comfortable and confident with our plan.” After earning his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Garfein completed his surgical training at Harvard before returning to New York for a microsurgery fellowship at NYU. As Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center and Professor of Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, he brings the perspective of both a reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon to every patient, believing the two disciplines strengthen one another. At Greenwich Street Aesthetics, he's known for breast surgery, advanced 3D surgical planning and a less-is-more philosophy. “There is nothing worse, in my opinion, than looking 'done,’” he says. “Patient happiness and great results mean everything.”

A Minute With
1
Which three words best describe you?
Honest, kind, hard-working.
2
What is the most common medical myth you hear patients say?
That you have to look ‘done.’ There is nothing worse, in my opinion, than an overdone result. A less-is-more philosophy creates the most natural outcomes.
3
What are you proudest about your practice?
The breadth of patients and problems that I treat. I also built Greenwich Street Surgical, a surgical center where world-leaders can share the latest ideas and techniques—constructed to hospital standards, not the typical pied-à-terre footprint so common in NYC.
4
How does your staff enhance your practice?
They completely share my standards, work ethic, and dedication to our patients.
5
Which new services are you excited to offer?
Preservé breast augmentation. The idea of placing the implant above the muscle and below the breast tissue is a radical departure from what surgeons and patients have been doing for the last two decades, and the results are transformative.
6
What is one procedure that changed your career?
Preservé breast augmentation.
7
How do you manage patient expectations?
Under-promise, over-deliver.
8
What are your most requested procedures?
Breast augmentation, gynecomastia correction, breast reduction
9
How do you show patients you care post-treatment?
Constant contact.
10
What are you best known for?
Integration of 3D imaging and planning into aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.
11
What accolades mean the most to you?
Accolades don't mean that much to me. Patient happiness and great results mean everything.
12
Why is giving back so important to you?
It is intrinsic to being a doctor.
