French women have always been known for the chic style. And thanks to this video from WatchCut, we can see their stunning evolution since the early 1900s.

In under two minutes, we watch a woman transform from a 1920’s flapper to a 1960’s Bridgette Bardot look-a-like all the way up to today’s laid-back style. And with each look comes an influence that inspired it. Whether it be the 1950’s feminist Simone Beauvoir or 2000’s Audrey Tatou in Amelie, each decade’s style has it’s reasoning.
The 1940’s is one of the most interesting decades. We actually see two different looks— one in occupied France and the other in Vichy France. We see how the occupied zone was heavily influenced by Germany’s Edith Piaf.
