Personally, there are few words I love to hear more than “live from New York, it’s Saturday night.” Add a gorgeous, hilarious host to the mix and there you have my ideal Saturday night in. So, you can imagine my excitement for this past Saturday’s episode with the one and only Dakota Johnson.
While I was laughing start to finish at the Madame Webb star’s dry sense of humor, I was even more enthralled by her radiant complexion—this is live TV people, no retouching in sight. As it turns out, the actress’s stunning skin was thanks to a little pre-show meditation and a quick backstage session with a viral LED mask.
Johnson’s Pre-Show Ritual
No surprise to us, according to Johnson’s makeup artist Georgie Eisdell, the actress takes great care of her skin, which makes Eisdell’s job “so much easier.” But, when it comes to SNL skin prep, Eisdell explained to British Vogue that “this isn’t a week with a lot of sleep, so we took the time to put on the CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Mask ($380) in the dressing room.” As Eisdell explains, a CurrentBody treatment is twofold as “it gives them a few minutes of time to themselves but also doubles as a quick depuffing and firming skin treatment. I left her in her dressing room with the mask and blanket on to meditate, then it was full steam ahead!”
In terms of makeup, Eisdell told the British outlet that Victoria Beckham Beauty was a key player in creating the star’s makeup look for the night. She relied on plum shades on the eyes to bring out her natural eyes, and then turned to the brand’s The Lip Definer ($30) in shade #2 to accentuate her pout. In terms of smokey eye technique, Eisdell explains, “It’s actually all about the application process. I prefer cream shadows because they are so much easier to work with. From there, you need a dry, clean, fluffy brush—that’s important. Put the shadow on the outer corner of the eye then move the brush like a windshield wiper across the lid until it’s blended. Then blend a little more. I’ve learned you always need to blend a little more than you think you do.”
