Mickey Guyton made some serious history tonight, even before the red carpet rolled out for the start of the 63rd annual Grammy Awards. Not only was the 37-year-old Texas native nominated for her first Grammy, but she is the first Black solo female artist to be nominated in the country music category for her autobiographical hit, “Black Like Me.”
While Guyton didn’t end up winning tonight—”Although I didn’t win this Grammy, it truly is an honor and I will forever be a Grammy nominated artist. I love you guys,” she so graciously posted on Twitter—the whole day was a “dream,” celebrity makeup artist D’Andre Michael, who helped prep Guyton for the big night, shared exclusively with us.
