While our brains may first go to star-studded parties, the Miami clubbing scene or Dolphins game-day looks when we think of influencer Alix Earle, the beauty aficionado has a much more serious goal behind the content she posts: normalizing acne and the mental health struggles that come along with the persistent skin condition.
While the New Jersey native is known for her flawless makeup looks, Earle continuously makes a point across her platforms to share her struggles with cystic acne and how the condition has impacted her day-to-day life, paving the way for millions of others to take control of their acne journeys. This weekend, Earle made another huge step in her acne-awareness initiative, taking on a full weekend in New York City sans makeup, and documenting the whole ordeal for followers to see.
Alix Earle Goes Bare-Faced In NYC
“Wore no face makeup out this weekend in NYC and the info I have gathered is that no one cares and we are our own worst enemy,” Earle began in the caption for her Instagram post for the weekend, which opened with a photo of her makeup-free skin on her dermatologist’s facial bed, breakout and all. “As someone who has always struggled with their skin since middle school, makeup has always been a safe space for me in terms of feeling secure and confident when leaving the house,” Earle continued on her decision to go without the safeguard for weekend, explaining that she is “Currently dealing with a little outbreak and wanted to really clear my skin and treat it.”
Not only did Earle share gorgeous, heartwarming, makeup-free photos of herself and her family enjoying their big apple outings, she also gave followers the scoop on what she did to emedy her flare-up, spreading information and giving followers some expert guidance into clearing acne with professional help. To soothe her skin, Earle turned to the Aesthetica Skin Lab at Hudson Dermatology and Laser Surgery with New York dermatologist, Dr. Kiran Mian. “We did full extractions to clean out my pores,” she says. Earle went on to explain how her breakouts are usually exacerbated by her daily makeup use, which prompted her decision to go fully bare for the weekend, but that doesn’t mean it was easy. “Seems dramatic but for me I was petrified and felt like the only thing people were going to look at was my skin,” she wrote in the caption. “After 3 days of being out fresh faced show my real skin … I realized no one cared or noticed. Because at the end of the day putting on makeup over blistering acne just to wash it off and irritate it isn’t for me.”
