Gucci Westman, makeup artist to the stars including Jennifer Aniston and Anne Hathaway, has been in the business for years. Her experience as a makeup artist even inspired her brand Westman Atelier, which is, of course, a celeb favorite. As a woman over 50 herself and working on mature clients, Westman has amassed some expert insight into makeup application on aging skin.

Westman says you need to reevaluate what looks best on you over time. “Your eyes become more hollow, your face becomes less juicy, and your eyebrows change from when you were in your 30 and 40s,” Westman tells MindBodyGreen. “You must evolve with your features a bit and not be so stuck on doing the same thing if it doesn’t work. Maybe your blush application has to change, and [you need to] use more creamy and hydrating textures,” explains Westman. These pointers echo the advice we’ve heard from other experts on the topic.

The best beauty hack Westman has is for everyone, regardless of age. “To create definition on your eyelids, I like to use one or two shades starting from the lash line and going up to the socket. You can blend the shade all the way up. Using a deeper shade gives more definition,” she explains.

Westman’s best beauty advice for the younger generations may not come as a surprise. Just like many beauty experts, her biggest tip for her younger self would be “to stay away from the sun.”
