Philosophy

Labeled a “Super Doctor” by The New York Times and named a “Top Doc” by Castle Connelly, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Marina Peredo brings her concept of aesthetic artistry to a whole new level at her Skinfluence headquarters in Manhattan. Believing dermatologists can have a direct impact on someone’s confidence, Dr. Peredo strives to uncover and enhance beauty that is already present. By employing a less-is-more philosophy, she customizes her treatments to reveal a patient’s unique self. “Confidence is powerful and sexy, yet too often we let skin and body imperfections undermine our confidence,” she says. “Using multiple modalities, we can help you look and feel your most confident!”

About My Practice:

What are you excited about for the future of your practice?

We recently opened a second practice called Skinfluence at 1047 Park Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

What can people do to look younger?

Invest in good skin care and sunblock.

When treating superficial sun damage is it only aesthetic or would you be treating something that is potentially cancerous?

Certain treatments like certain peels would do something that's called porodynamics therapy and that peel will address the precancerous spot. In something like that if the patient has a lot of precancerous spots, and skin cancers I'm sure it's covered by insurance. Some of the laser treatments, because they do the reversal of the skin damage, will help prevent skin cancers in the future.

What is Spatique?

Spatique is a full-service medical spa that offers patients noninvasive aesthetic treatments like facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, makeup and massage services, along with fillers, Botox, lasers and laser-assisted liposuction.

How do I prevent skin cancers?

A lot of patients come for sun damage and won't come in the summer but I tell them it's a commitment. If you're going to make an investment and spend money and you're not even going to use sunscreen it's not worth your investment because everything is going to come right back. You really need to be committed.

What kind of routine should I use to wash my face?

It's very important when you come home to wash off your makeup. Don't go to sleep with your make up on. I recommend a routine that has mild cleanser with something that will exfoliate the skin. If you have a tendency to break out your skin is probably oily, so then I would recommend you use astringent pads with glycolic and salicylic acid. Then, depending on how bad you break out, I would suggest either topical prescription medication or oral medication to control the breakouts.

Does it hurt to remove spots in a bony part of the body?

No

Is there a preventative time to start getting face treatments? If someone comes in in their 30s with beautiful skin and their skin looks beautiful would you say now is the time to start doing this?

The earlier you start the better. I love when patients come in and they don't need anything yet and they say they want to be sure they can keep their skin looking young. I just tell them 'perfect, let's talk about skin care, what products you may want to use, what are the products that have peptides or something that will stimulate your collagen?' Use cleanser, moisturizer, night cream, eye cream and then definitely use sunscreen.

Is there a point where you're beyond fixing your face?

People come in who are very neglected and very wrinkled. The two things I ask are do you smoke and do you abuse the sun? A lot of times it's genetic some people just don't age well but most of the time it's lifestyle habits. People who don't really care and don't put on sunscreen and smoke and drink it will show on the skin. It's hard to reverse that. We have to make a commitment and change lifestyle habits.

In what ways is your treatment style comprehensive?

I'm as apt to suggest a new shade of lipstick as I am to prescribe treatments for unwanted lines and wrinkles.

What is your main goal when treating patients and how do you achieve it?

Above all else, I want to create symmetry while enhancing the patient’s natural beauty. I employ a global approach because it is important to treat the entire face and not just one line or wrinkle so that results look balanced and not overdone.

Do people with darker skin show scars more than those with lighter skin tones?

Not necessarily, although people with darker skin may have a little more tendency to form keloids, which are really thick scars. But no, in general either skin type will show scars.

If you use sunscreen and you still get color on your skin are you not using enough?

That's ok, if you're using sunscreen you're getting color but you're not getting sun damage. Normally patients get very freckly if they get sunburn. It's very important to use sunscreen, not just SPF 8 but 15 or higher. If you have regular moles or have family or personal history of skin cancers a lot of times I will recommend something that has a physical block like zinc oxide or titanium oxide in the sunscreen because that gives a better protection. You need to reapply. One time in three hours is not enough. Put it on every 30 minutes. There's a lot of education to give to patients. Like breast exams you need to do mole exams.

Why is a long-term treatment plan important?

I try to stress to patients that skin care is not just a one time deal— it’s a continuous relationship that starts with one treatment and progresses to at-home care and additional treatments over a longer period of time so the results are gradual and natural. I educate my patients about each step as we create their treatment plan so that they never feel overwhelmed

What is your core sub-specialization?

While cosmetic enhancements like liquid facelifts are among my specialties, I offer full spectrum skin-care services, treating everything from acne to psoriasis. Getting the skin healthy is always the first step to making it look beautiful.

What sets your practice apart?

As a training center for other physicians, we hold our AAAHC-accredited practice to the highest standards. We are distinctive because we continue to evolve by adding new, cutting-edge products, technologies and services.

What new procedures are you most excited about?

I am using a technique called Beautiphication™. Using a caliper measuring tool, I can map out areas for cosmetic injectables and dermal fillers to restore symmetry, harmony and balance to the face. The precision of this technique enhances each individual’s natural beauty.

About Me:

How would you characterize yourself?

I'm a fan of all things new and noteworthy, carefully balancing high tech with high touch, in addition to educating my patients.

How would your patients describe your approach?

I'm very artistic and have been described as a 'Michelangelo' by patients.

How do you spend your free time?

One of my personal passions is sculpting, which complements and enhances my work as a cosmetic dermatologist. That creativity plays a positive role in the outcome of the care my patients receive, and is complemented by the Beautiphication technique.

Testimonials

Beauty at any age

Elaine Cohen

Dr. Peredo is very careful about where she puts fillers. She is like an artist. After I told her what bothered me about my face, she studied me and made spot-on recommendations. Her personality is amazing as well. She would never recommend something I didn’t really need, which made me feel I could trust her. This investment I made in myself keeps me young because when I look young, I feel young. I’m 63 years old, but I still live my life like a much younger person.

My Michelangelo

Vicki Imbarrato

Age to me is having a good attitude on life. The longer I live, the more I realize that having a positive attitude keeps you young. I am a woman in my late, late seventies and I am very proud of it. I am a professional singer, and I love when seniors say to me, “You’re beautiful…I once was when I was your age!” Little do they know that I am their age! Dr. Perdeo has given me even more confidence. She has the talent and skills that will keep you young and glowing. I have three daughters and six grandchildren. I tell them that a good attitude on life will keep you young. Dr. Peredo has helped me keep that attitude going and has slowed down the aging process.

Sanity not vanity

Cynthia F.

As a 50-year-old woman, I feel more attractive than I have ever felt. My skin looks younger, and Dr. Peredo’s artistic nonsurgical sculpting has allowed me to change areas that have always bothered me. As a therapist, I’ve become aware of recent brain research that shows the more we self-care, the more psychologically comfortable we are! This comfort allows for increased self-esteem and productivity, as well as a marked decrease in anxiety and/or depression. Clearly this is not a luxury but rather an investment.

The skin you're in

Diana S.

“I’ve always believed that true beauty comes from within—from within Dr. Peredo’s office. As an image consultant, I know how important it is to look natural. Dr. Peredo never overdoes it. On the contrary, she’ll be the first one not to perform a procedure if she thinks it’s unnecessary, which is why I’d never go anywhere else. Thanks to Dr. Peredo, people always tell me I look like I’m in my early 30s. Her staff is just as unbelievable, too. They’re so kind, friendly and efficient. There just aren’t enough nice things I could say about her and her team.”

Age is just a number

Sabah D.

That’s a phrase I hear all the time from women who are rationalizing their aging physical appearance while trying to stay young inside. I say, “Why can’t we feel young inside and out?” I pride myself on healthy living. Keeping myself in great shape is rewarding in many ways but also hard work. That’s where Dr. Peredo comes in because who couldn’t use a little assistance now and then to ward off the effects of time? Dr. Peredo is not just a doctor but a consultant and now a friend. I rely on her for her honest opinion. She truly wants what’s best for her clients and that is why I will never go anywhere else. Age is a number but one I embrace because with the help of Dr. Peredo, I feel and look like I’m in my twenties!

About Me

Redefining Lip Contouring

Lips are one of the focal points of the face. This 43-year-old patient’s lips were beginning to lose volume (particularly on the top lip) and definition. With Restylane Silk, Dr. Peredo was able to impart some volume, definition and smoothness, which helped to create a balanced lip.

Contouring with Cannulas

“Using a cannula allows me to sculpt each area, resulting in a more precise fill. Cannulas are changing the way I perform injectable fillers and it’s just a matter of time until my patients start to ask for this technique by name,” says Dr. Peredo.

Restoring Mid-Face Volume

This 50-year-old patient was concerned that her cheeks lacked definition, resulting in her looking older than she really was. Dr. Peredo used the newly FDA-approved injectable gel filler Juvéderm Voluma XC to add instant volume to the patient’s cheek areas.

Beauty on Any Budget

Creating personalized beauty programs for every patient—depending on their age, skin condi- tion, cosmetic concerns and budget—Dr. Peredo offers a multitude of various procedures, starting with rejuvenating spa treatments, anti-aging creams, and mineral makeup, and then progressing to lasers, fillers and Botox for natural-looking results. Additional services include Matrix RFTM fractional resurfacing, along with Sculptra Aesthetic, stimulating the body’s own production of collagen. Dr. Peredo’s office also offers Smartlipo. “We employ a whole-body approach, sculpting faces and bodies, and offering patients complete head-to-toe makeovers,” says Dr. Peredo.

Reshaping the Face

To enhance and soften the facial contours of this 38-year-old patient, Dr. Peredo used a combination of injectable treatments. “I used Sculptra in areas on the entire face and Botox in the upper and lower face [off-label],” Dr. Peredo says. “Strategic placement of the filler and neurotoxin ensured that we improved her facial shape without making her look ‘done.’”

Dr. Peredo fills you in on the cannula technique.

For those who receive regular treatments with aesthetic fillers but are still uneasy around needles, blunt tip cannulas may offer some relief. A cannula is a small flexible tube, with a blunt tip, designed for use with dermal fillers, such as Restylane, Perlane, Juvéderm and Radiesse. This injection technique involves a small needle that punctures the skin, then the cannula is gently threaded through the opening and guided to each area that needs to be filled. The single point of entry for each area, as opposed to 5 to 10 injections per area, means less needle entry marks, precise placement and minimal or no bruising and swelling because it can be less traumatic to the soft tissue, vessels and nerves. Always on the forefront of the newest technologies, Dr. Peredo uses this technique on her patients to add volume to the cheek bones, lips, oral commissures and jowls, as well as to fill the tear troughs, off-label, to reduce the appearance of hollows and dark areas under the eyes.

What Women Want

New chic trends put style into every detail of how women look from neutral-toned and vintage- inspired dresses to high-end handbags and perfectly styled hair. But perhaps the most important detail to complete a look is great skin. “Purity of lines, flawless skin and modern minimalism are all about elegance,” Dr. Peredo says. Using a combination of anti-aging skin-care regimens, including injectables, laser treatments and the latest in topical skin-care products, such as the new stem cell serum and moisturizer technology, Dr. Peredo works with patients to elevate their feelings of elegance and achieve their ideal skin. “We all want to look our best, without looking like we are trying too hard,” she says. “We don’t just want to look good for our age, we want to look good period. That’s why it’s important to seek out someone with the experience of an expert injector/trainer.”

Dr. Marina Peredo Does It All With Botox.

We’re all familiar with the traditional uses of Botox to diminish fine lines on the forehead and even treat chronic migraines, but did you know this revolutionary toxin is now being used to treat other skin and health concerns? Always on the forefront of the newest techniques and technologies, Dr. Peredo alternatively uses this toxin, off-label, for the “Nefertiti Lift,” which treats a sagging neck by relaxing muscles along the jawline and neck to counteract the effects of gravity, resulting in a more youthful look of the lower face. For those with a prominent, square jaw, she injects the toxin into the masseter muscle, off-label, resulting in a rounder, more feminine look. This toxin is also used to reduce perspiration and tighten pores on the face, off-label, aiding women suffering from the uncomfortable side effects of menopause for less sweating.

High-Tech Treatments

Giving her patients a youthful and refreshed appearance is something Dr. Peredo finds highly rewarding. One of her favorite new high-tech tools is the TriniTiTM procedure, preferred for its proven Three-in-one benefits. “This laser corrects sun damage, erases fine lines and wrinkles and Tightens sagging skin simultaneously,” Dr. Peredo says. “Patients can look dramatically younger in as few as three treatments.” Experienced with fillers and injectables, Dr. Peredo uses Botox® to deliver a natural, not frozen look, in addition to Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvéderm® or Sculptra® to fill and lift Tired-looking features. Having enhanced a number of age-worn faces, Dr. Peredo is eager to apply her knowledge and artistry to the beautification of bodies. In fact, Dr. Peredo is a designated physician trainer for SmartlipoTM and her office has recently become a Clinical Reference Center for physician training programs. “Helping women look and feel their best at any age is what makes my job so gratifying.”

Dr. Marina Peredo Transforms Bodies with New Noninvasive Treatment

Always on the forefront of technology, Dr. Peredo now offers a noninvasive way to get rid of love handles, back bra rolls and other stubborn fat bulges. CoolSculpting is a revolutionary nonsurgical body contouring treatment that freezes stubborn fat, which then is naturally eliminated from your body. No needles, no special diet, no supplements, no surgery, and most importantly, no downtime. It’s FDA-cleared and effective in doing what it’s supposed to with very little discomfort. “This is not a weight-loss procedure,” says Dr. Peredo. “The ideal candidate would be a reasonably fit person who, with diet and exercise, still has unwanted bulges such as love handles, abdomen fat and back fat.” The procedure is typically less costly than liposuction, and a patient can see up to a 25 percent reduction in fat per treatment. Some areas may require more than one treatment to obtain optimum results.

Noninvasive Skin Tightening

Unhappy with her sagging jowls and neck that appeared with age, this 52-year-old patient sought Dr. Peredo for a fresh look. Dr. Peredo performed Ultherapy, a noninvasive, FDA-approved skin-tightening treatment on the patient’s neck and lower face to deliver a more youthful, rejuvenating result.

The Natural Lip: Move Over, Lipstick

Natural-looking lips are no longer just a makeup trend. “The latest FDA-approved lip filler, Restylane® Silk, is the ultimate lip enhancer. Formulated with a highly specialized hyaluronic acid that features smaller-sized particles, this reversible treatment creates a soft, natural lip contour. The beauty of this product is that I can address multiple lip concerns with one product,” says Dr. Peredo. “Whether a patient is looking for lip augmentation or lip restoration, Restylane Silk does both. This filler is luxury in a syringe. We can now achieve an elegant, smooth, soft lip that looks completely natural in a matter of minutes.”

Tighter Skin Without Surgery

There is now a treatment for those who are looking for skin-tightening results, without having a surgical facelift. “Ultherapy is an exciting new noninvasive procedure that is FDA-approved to use targeted sonic waves to create heat, which then remodels collagen to tighten and lift the underlying tissue, muscle and surface of the skin,” says Dr. Peredo. “Ultherapy is best for those patients with mild to moderate tissue laxity. The procedure works to tighten the neck and jawline and lift the brow, and was recently FDA-approved to treat the décolleté. It can create a tighter, lifted effect in the skin through a single 30-minute treatment with little to no downtime.”

The New Age of Anti-Aging

“My goal in performing a cosmetic procedure is to enhance a person’s natural beauty, while obtaining balance and harmony between the features,” says Dr. Peredo, who believes in combining treatments in order to boost a patient’s outcome. Dr. Peredo has found that combining Sculptra Aesthetic with Matrix RFTM fractionated laser resurfacing provides for more comprehensive beauty benefits. An average of three injection sessions of Sculptra Aesthetic helps to replace lost volume, restore contours and improve lines and wrinkles. “Likewise, a series of about three Matrix RF sessions, a new form of fractionated radiofrequency Sublative RejuvenationTM, allows for deep penetration of energy to change the structure of collagen and stimulate new collagen formation, yielding a younger appearance with limited downtime,” says Dr. Peredo. “Sculptra Aesthetic gives you gradual results by stimulating collagen growth, while Matrix RF repairs existing collagen. Merging these two technologies may produce longer-lasting, natural-looking results.”

Power Pout

This patient sought Dr. Peredo to give her fuller lips. Using Restylane, now FDA approved for lip augmentation, Dr. Peredo was able to add volume to her lips for a natural look.

Restoring Volume

This 44-year-old patient was concerned with the tired-looking, flat and hollow appearance of her under-eye areas. Dr. Peredo used Sculptra, off-label, to rejuvenate the patient’s temple areas, oral commissure and jawline, as well as Juvéderm Voluma XC to add volume to the patient’s cheeks.

Noninvasive Skin Tightening

Unhappy with her sagging jowls and neck that appeared with age, this 52-year-old patient sought Dr. Peredo for a fresh look. Dr. Peredo performed Ultherapy, a noninvasive, FDA-approved skin-tightening treatment, on the patient’s neck and lower face to deliver a more youthful, rejuvenating result.

Midsection Fat Remover

This patient was concerned with the stubborn fat on her abdomen that wouldn’t go away with diet and exercise alone. Dr. Peredo used CoolSculpting® to target the patient’s fat cells and eliminate them using a nonsurgical freezing process. “I cannot believe how much of my belly has disappeared,” says the patient. “I’ve lost more than two inches after two months, and I’m thrilled with the results.”

Beauty At Any Age

“To me, age is about having a good attitude toward life. The longer I live, the more I realize that having a positive attitude keeps you young. I am a woman who recently turned 80 years old and I am very proud of it. I am also a professional singer, and I love it when seniors say to me, “You’re beautiful— I once was when I was your age!” Little do they know that I am their age! Dr. Peredo has the talent and skills to keep you looking young and glowing. I have three daughters and six grandchildren and I tell them that a good attitude toward life will keep them young. Dr. Peredo has helped me keep that attitude going and has slowed down my aging process. She is my Michelangelo!”

A Breakthrough in Facial Fillers

As an expert injector and trainer for Allergan, Dr. Peredo was among the first physicians in the country to get the highly anticipated Juvéderm Voluma XC, recently approved by the FDA to restore facial volume. “I am very excited to finally offer this treatment to my patients,” says Dr. Peredo. “Ideal for those with a thin face or sunken cheeks, Voluma XC offers youthful, natural-looking rejuvenation, and results are expected to last for up to two years—truly a breakthrough in aesthetic dermatology.” As a key opinion leader and a member of Allergan’s National Education Faculty, Dr. Peredo will also train other physicians on how to properly inject the filler.

Slim Down With CoolSculpting

Diet and exercise are key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and the appropriate weight. But when stubborn belly fat doesn’t respond, the use of fat freezing with CoolSculpting can help provide that much needed boost. Results are visible with just one treatment after approximately three months.

Nothing is Sexier Than Confidence

“Confidence is powerful and sexy, yet baring our bodies during the summer months can shake even the most confident,” says Dr. Peredo. “A few extra pounds, some new thigh dimples or just overall sagging can make a person feel self-conscious. But there are new ways to treat these problems. Through a combination of fat freezing, acoustic sound waves and ultrasound, our exclusive Contour Express treatment can help you reduce fat, cellulite and sagging, so you can look and feel your most confident! As actress Vivica A. Fox says: ‘A great figure or physique is nice, but it’s self-confidence that makes someone really sexy.’”

FAQ's

Q. What is the difference between spider veins and varicose veins?

What our experts say:

The difference is in size and color. Varicose veins are those big blue, bulging, kind of rope-like veins. Spider veins are normally kind of purple and very small, like one to two millimeters.

Q. Are there any prescription brands as good as Retin-A for wrinkles?

What our experts say:

Over-the-counter retinol products are pretty good. They're not as good Retin-A because they're not as strong. Prescription brands that are as good as Retin-A are other retinoids such as Ziana, which is a combination of Retin A and clendomyacin. We use it a lot of times for acne patients, or Tazorac. Those are prescription strength formulas that are going to be as good if not better.

Q. Do injections like Botox, Dysport, Restylane and others hurt? Do you bruise when you get them? And do you have to stay home from work for a day or two after getting them?

What our experts say:

It is a needle so I would say it's slightly uncomfortable but for Restylane normally patients get numbed with a topical anesthetic. It's tolerable. You rarely bruise from Botox and Dysport but occasionally you will from filler. With Botox and Dysport you don't need to stay home from work. With fillers if it's a small bruise most of the time it can be covered with concealer. Most patients do not stay home from work when they get injections.

Q. How can you remove wrinkles from a neck?

What our experts say:

The neck is one of the toughest areas. The face is easy and hands, which can totally give away your age are also easier to treat. Most patients will have to get a neck lift. The thing I do non-surgical for the neck is a combination is Botox into the pores to try and soften the area and a lot of rejuvenation laser that will tighten the skin and stimulate collagen production.

Q. How do you treat spotty or wrinkly hands?

What our experts say:

Hand veins can be removed with injections. To treat sun damage on the surface of the hand I would use a laser.

Q. My skin has so much sun damage and lots of brown spots. I’d like to do something on the surface only. What kind of peel goes deepest and is most refreshing?

What our experts say:

You can either do a superficial chemical peel or a combination of things like microdermabrasion, that uses crystals, or there is light treatment called IPL that also works great for superficial sun damage. There are a variety of procedures that can be done.

Q. My 15 year old acne scars still bother me. What is a good acne treatment that will make them go away, or at least make them less noticeable?

What our experts say:

It depends on what type of acne scars. There's a lot of different types of laser treatments so it's kind of hard to know without looking at them. One is more for uneven pigmentation, more superficial scars. And there is a more aggressive laser treatment for deeper kind of ice pick scars. Some patients have old scars that are more superficial and they can do well, if it's just the pigment, with microdermabrasion, chemical peels or more aggressive laser treatments. There is definitely treatment from more superficial lasers to more invasive lasers that take time to heal from.

Q. When you do a fat transfer on a facelift where does the fat come from?

What our experts say:

Normally if it's all capillaries, or broken blood vessels, it's the same laser so it can be done all in one treatment, but most people need several treatments to get rid of them, maybe three to five treatments a month apart. And different sized veins on the face can be removed at the same time.

Q. I am 60, had ultherapy 2 weeks ago. Doctor recomend me to have venus freese in 2 weeks after ultherapy to incraese the result. In your opinion, should i have it done?

What our experts say:

I don't see any point in adding an additional procedure and expense after having the Ultherapy treatment.  Otherwise, how would you know which procedure gave you the results you were seeking?  With Ultherapy, patience is key.  It can take 3-6 months to see the best results.

Q. I am 52 yrs old and considering ultherapy. How long will it last?

What our experts say:

Depending on your skin elasticity, patients can see results last from 1-2 years.

Q. What's the difference between SlimLipo and SmartLipo?

What our experts say:

They are both laser assisted technologies in liquifying and removing fat.  I think the most important predictor of good results is the surgeon performing the procedure not the laser.  Check the credentials of the surgeon before commiting to either laser.

Q. What do you recommend to treat hypertrophic scars that are flat but have a dark purplish/pinkish color?

What our experts say:

Hypertrophic scars normally respond well to several sessions of pulse dye laser

Q. Which laser treatment can get rid of broken blood vessels on my face? There are some tiny vessels near my eyes and some bigger ones on my cheeks. Are these removable with the same laser or do I need multiple appointments?

What our experts say:

The Vbeam® pulsed dye laser is excellent for treating broken capillaries and any other vascular lesions, whether they are tiny capillaries or larger ones. Usually several treatments are required, and I normally space them four to six weeks apart for my patients.

Q. How long does it take to get rid of spider veins? Can I do it in the office? Does insurance cover the procedure?

What our experts say:

On average it takes 3-4 treatments and we do them about a month apart, in the office. Insurance doesn't cover Spider veins are considered cosmetic. Insurance occasionally will cover, not always, painful varicose, the big blue veins, but not spider veins.

Q. I want to relax the wrinkles on my face and make my skin look tighter, should I use a filler like Juvéderm or a relaxer like Botox? Are there other brands or things I should consider?

What our experts say:

It depends where the wrinkles are. Botox normally works well for the upper part of the face, like the forehead between the eyebrows and the eyes. Filler is normally for the cheeks down. But again it depends where the wrinkles are. Sometimes we use a combination of both Botox and filler.

Q. I have lines on my face and they bother me. What should I do?

What our experts say:

It depends on your age. For someone who comes in their 20s or 30s, it's more about prevention, good skin care, sunscreen use and good products, something to keep your skin looking young. Someone who comes a little bit later and, depending on their concerns, if they have a lot of sun damage, is looking for what to do to reverse it. We start with microdermabrasion and chemical peels and see whether they need lasers and then prevention. Now that you have invested all this money in treatments, you need to maintain them.

Q. I got one Botox injection, how long should it last and will I need to get others to maintain the look?

What our experts say:

On average Botox injections should last 3-1/2 to four months. Studies actually show that if for the first year they put Botox injections on a schedule and consistently do them every 3-1/2 to four months they're going to last a lot longer because they will get better longevity and that's what I suggest to my patients.

Q. I have random veins on my nose and other parts of my body. Are they spider veins and can they be removed?

What our experts say:

They can be called spider veins. Normally that term is mostly used for the leg veins. On the face normally we do it with lasers, not injections. With the legs we use sclerotherapy.

Q. Is there a way to prevent spider veins?

What our experts say:

They're mainly genetic so people with that predisposition should try to wear support stockings especially if they work in an occupation that requires a lot of standing. It doesn't necessarily have to be surgical supports but just regular support stockings.

Q. I am 39 and my chin is still breaking out. Shouldn't I be past the pimple stage? What is best way for me to treat and prevent them?

What our experts say:

Any time there are hormonal changes or hormonal fluctuations you can still break out. If it is mild breakout try over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide, cleansers and maybe retinol products. If it doesn't get better with that, get professional help.

Q. How do you get rid of stretchmarks 30 years after they happen?

What our experts say:

It's very difficult. For stretchmarks there is nothing great on the market but there are some lasers that may help.

About Dr. Marina Peredo
About Me

How would you characterize yourself?

I'm a fan of all things new and noteworthy, carefully balancing high tech with high touch, in addition to educating my patients.

How would your patients describe your approach?

I'm very artistic and have been described as a 'Michelangelo' by patients.

How do you spend your free time?

One of my personal passions is sculpting, which complements and enhances my work as a cosmetic dermatologist. That creativity plays a positive role in the outcome of the care my patients receive, and is complemented by the Beautiphication technique.

About My Practice

Insights

FAQ
