Mariah Carey just dropped a major “what?” bomb to E! News regarding her diet, and the crazy thing isn’t how much she eats or some out-there dish—it’s the fact that what she eats is literally the ONLY thing in her food rotation.

“It’s really hard. My diet, you would hate it,” Carey told E! News while promoting her new series Mariah’s World. “All you eat is Norwegian salmon and capers every day. That’s it.”

Seriously?

“I’m actually serious,” she added. “I try to stick with the proteins. It’s the worst.”

While Beverly Hills, CA, dermatologist Harold Lancer, MD, isn’t speculating on Carey’s diet, he is very much a proponent of a high-protein diet—with an emphasis on salmon. “Hair, skin, nails, muscles, bones and organs all need a constant supply of protein for growth and repair. Fish, including salmon, is a really good source of protein and corresponds to anti-aging nutrition.”

But Dr. Lancer’s recommendation to his patients isn’t a solo diet of salmon, and he gives the following breakdown:

·  35-40% of daily caloric intake should be protein in the form of fish, beans, nuts and lean meats

·  25% should be complex carbohydrates, mostly vegetables with some whole grains

·  35% should be healthy fats

·  Salt intake should be 1,500mg a day and not in excess of 2,300 mg, and no added salt

“To live longer and look better, your overall daily caloric intake should be somewhat below the recommended 2,000 calories, unless you are an athlete,” he adds. “I also suggest trying four to six mini meals a day. Eating smaller amounts of food more frequently will help you maintain energy and optimal nutrient levels.”
