Smoky makeup is no longer reserved for your eyes thanks to Lipstick Queen, which debuted a whole new concept this year: smoky lips. Using the brand’s Smokey Lip Kit ($35), which comes with two shades—a sheer black called Black Lace Rabbit and a dusty pink named Pinky Nude Sinner—you can create a “smoky” effect that demonstrates one of the best examples of fall’s goth glam trend.

Having a hard time picturing it? Below, three editors put the kit to the test and shared their thoughts.
“Don’t let the black base color of this duo scare you; once the second layer is applied, the delicate peach-meets-pink shade balances out any darkness and creates the most beautiful dusty rose I’ve been after for years.” —Danielle Fontana, Editorial Assistant
“I really like the versatility of this lip kit. The Pinky Nude Sinner shade that acts as a base is a really wearable, moisturizing and such a lovely color that it’s an instant classic in my favorite nude lippie collection. Black Lace Rabbit is a shimmery, sheer dark shade that when swiped over the pinky nude color, gives it a darker, more mauve tone. I liked both colors on their own, but love having the ability to switch up my look at a moment’s notice. The creamy formula on the lipstick and the sheer swatch of color on the smoky shade make them both winners in their own right.” —Tatiana Bido, Special Projects Editor
“I was hesitant to try black lipstick, but it’s relatively sheer, so the color isn’t as Halloween as you’d expect. However, I don’t think I’d wear the Black Lace Rabbit on its own, but the point of the kit is to create a ‘smoky’ look by layering the pink hue on top. When I combined the two, I got this rich goth glam color that instantly gave me an edgy look like a smoky eye would. I will definitely use this kit on the regular.” —Brittany Burhop, Senior Editor
