Beauty guru and L’Oréal Paris ambassador Eva Longoria took to Instagram last night to share her secrets for nailing the perfect everyday smoky eye with her more than 3 million followers. A series of videos show the star beginning with a completely bare face and ending with a gorgeous makeup look.

After applying her foundation with a beautyblender (she even dabbed some on her eyelids), Longoria used concealer on her lids as well to act like a primer and help keep her eye shadow in place.
Next, she reached for her L’Oréal Paris La Palette Nude Intense ($20), which she says is the palette she uses every day. “The shades are numbered, so I start with #1 all over my eye to set my concealer; it’s kind of shimmery and really pretty.”
Then she applies #3, which she describes as “kind of a rose color” that acts as her transition color (the shade you use to merge your darkest and lightest eye shadow colors together and give some depth to your smoky eye). “You want a transition color that’s in the family of the eye shadows you’re using so you don’t have a harsh line,” says Longoria.
The shade #6 goes on next, which is one of the darkest shades in the palette, and Longoria applies it right in the crease of her lid using a smaller, more concentrated brush. Then she dabs L’Oréal Infallible 24 HR Eye Shadow ($8) all over with her finger to add sparkle. “I’m using these Infallible shadows for the first time—they’re kind of like creamy for an ombré look. Amber rush [pictured below] is beautiful—I like to use my finger to apply it [she applies it to her hand to show the color payoff].”
She also advises not to worry if your eye shadow “is falling” because you can clean it up with a wipe afterward like she does.
Once her eye shadow is in place, Longoria uses a felt-tip liquid eyeliner to draw a cat’s-eye starting at the outer corner. “Be aggressive with your felt-tip liner because it’s like a sharpie; you’re just drawing,” she says. “Just get in there and draw the shape you want and then start filling it in.”
A few coats of black mascara and some brow styling to cover a scar in her eyebrow, and voila! “Yay! That’s my pink, everyday, nudey smoky eye,” says Longoria.
