Being vegan isn’t always limited to the foods you eat—the beauty products you use can play a role too. Google Beauty Trends Reports continue to highlight the growth of vegan skin care according to key words in the search engine, and more beauty brands than ever are going green and clean.

So what exactly constitutes a vegan beauty product? The main attribute is that it’s not formulated with animal byproducts: think fish scales, emu oil, shark cartilage, gelatin, etc. Typically, it’s also cruelty-free, which means it’s not tested on animals, and either organic or natural in terms of ingredients.

From sunscreens to serums, these 15 products are not only ethical, but also incredibly effective.
