As one of the first beauty retailers to introduce a “bot” (a web robot—think of it like a text version of Siri with simpler capabilities) earlier this year, Sephora continues to push the digital envelope.
The beauty giant just announced the addition of two new bot-powered beauty tools for Facebook Messenger that make the integration of beauty into its clients’ daily routines that much easier.

The first of the two new launches, Sephora Reservation Assistant, lets you book an appointment for a makeover or consultation at the store of your choice (nationwide) through a “chat” with Sephora’s bot technology. You’ll instantly receive a confirmation email with your scheduled date and time—talk about convenience.
The second tool, Color Match for Sephora Virtual Artist, is a shade-matching extension of the brand’s original Virtual Artist bot. It can detect and accurately estimate the lipstick shade in any photo and match it with products that are currently available at Sephora. Then you can virtually try on each match and purchase the one you like best right on Sephora.com.
“Our two new bots for Messenger offer enhanced ways for our clients to engage with Sephora by streamlining how they access relevant service and product information on their mobile devices,” said Mary Beth Laughton, SVP of digital for Sephora, in a press release. “We’re excited to leverage the Messenger platform to create quick and natural conversational interactions that are client-led. This allows us to provide richer, more varied conversations that ensure clients get exactly what they want out of the experience.”
