While we’re not discounting for a minute the hardwork, sweat equity and dedication that goes into making a beauty brand a household name, these five companies seemed to come out of nowhere and really make an impact. Thanks in part to the power of social media, these makeup and skin care lines have made an impression with no signs of going anywhere anytime soon.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics
Despite the fact that makeup artist Jeffree Star has been all over the media lately for his ongoing feud with Kat Von D, this makeup artist and cosmetics entrepreneur isn’t sold in stores, but rather strictly online. Ever since his line of highlighters debuted, which continue to sell out in a matter of minutes, his name became synonymous with perfect makeup.

This naturally derived skin care line is more than just pretty packaging. The fact that it uses farm-grown botanical extracts coupled with scientific formulations for products that actually do good for your skin is the reason why it’s become an instant cult-classic.
Farsali Skin Care
Once we caught wind of this beauty brand, it seemed to be in nearly every YouTube tutorial and Instagram video we saw. A makeup artist favorite, the elixirs, which double as makeup primer, can be added to makeup, beautyblenders and makeup brushes to make everything go on smoother and look that much better.
