Stop everything: The Senate is doing something huge this Thursday, and it’s a big step forward for the clean-beauty revolution.
As Well + Good reports, the Senate will hold a hearing on the Personal Care Safety Act—the bill that calls to “amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require cosmetics companies to register their facilities with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and to submit to the FDA cosmetic ingredient statements that include the amounts of a cosmetic’s ingredients.”
In other words, this would involve a major makeover—and the first attempt at regulating beauty products in almost 80 years(!)—in how the FDA currently looks at the safety of cosmetics.

The bill was brought about by Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Susan Collins in April of 2015, and according to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, also calls the FDA to improve the current law by:
Directing the FDA to assess the safety of a minimum of five cosmetics chemicals a year
Requiring companies to register their facilities, products and ingredients with the FDA
Requiring companies to comply with good manufacturing practices
Closing labeling loopholes by requiring full ingredient disclosure for professional salon products and web-based sales of cosmetic products
Giving the FDA mandatory recall authority to get unsafe products off the shelves.
