There aren’t a whole heck of a lot of shocking-shampoo images out there, but leave it to celeb colorist Tracey Cunningham to have a very solid one on her phone.
“Check this out,” the Los Angeles-based hair magician shows me during a recent visit to New York, as she shares what can only be described as a lime-green puddle of a less-than-lovely liquid sitting stagnant in the shampoo bowl.
“This is what came out of my client’s hair after one wash. It’s crazy.”
For the long-time Olaplex user and ambassador, and an on-speed-dial-for-hair-color contact to the stars—Jennifer Lopez, Drew Barrymore, Charlize Theron, Toni Collette, Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel are just a small sampling of her clients—the new OLAPLEX No. 4C Bond Maintenance Clarifying Shampoo (it’s available for purchase June 27 on their site and on sephora.com on June 28) is, quite literally, a godsend for her craft.
While she doesn’t recommend using it every day or even every few days, the weekly wash promises to “purify” hair by removing hard water minerals, buildup and oil, as well as heavy metals, chlorine and pollutants (read: better color and softer, shinier hair via a non-stripping, non-drying formula).
And Cunningham says she’s seen the proof firsthand in the form of her already-fabulous hair color looking even better on her clients.
Celebrity hair colorist Chad Kenyon is also on board with the clear-colored powerhouse that he categorizes as a “deep-cleansing shampoo” that he’s been recommending once a week. “It is formulated with a broad-spectrum clarifying system to remove impurities that weigh down hair and cause damage without stripping the hair.”
Plus, as any Olaplex devotee will appreciate, Kenyon points out that it also contains the brand’s patented bond-building technology to maintain strong hair bonds. “The result is purified hair that looks and feels healthier and receives reparative treatments more effectively for an optimized hair repair routine that repairs, strengthens and protects.”
