There isn’t a woman in the world who would be opposed to knowing the ultimate secret to flattening her stomach—and fast.
In-the-know nutritionist Brooke Alpert says that the easiest way to get rid of any unwanted bloat is by completely avoiding carbonated drinks and chewing gum. “Carbonated drinks and gum can both cause belly distention, mainly because of the extra air you’re ingesting.”
She also says to stay away from beans, broccoli, brussels sprouts and cauliflower. “Even though they are superhealthy and good for you, they can often cause stomach distention.” And, the same goes for fresh pressed juices. “They can cause some bloating in the stomach, especially if they are high in sugar and have too many raw cruciferous vegetables.”
So, what can you eat that won’t make your stomach stick out? “I recommend drinking tons of water and mint tea. Anything with mint is a natural debater. Dandelion greens are great for getting rid of extra belly bloat, too. You can enjoy them juiced, sautéed or even drink them as a tea.” Other foods to beat the bloat: cucumbers, which have an anti-inflammatory effect, potassium-rich foods like avocado, kiwi and pistachios, which Alpert says help balance electrolytes in the body so you can naturally debloat, and asparagus, a natural diuretic. “Prebiotics help as well because they feed the good bacteria in your GI tract,” adds Alpert.
