Blackheads and clogged pores always seem to pop up as a big skin care problem area for many people. The strips, the scrubs, the in-office treatments, the should-you-even-try-it DIY extractions! The options are endless, but almost never seem to be all that straightforward or effective.

As Troy, MI, plastic surgeon Anthony Youn, MD, suggests on social media, one solution for cleaning out the pesky issue may be in a place that’s probably never crossed your mind.

His tip: “Using Elmer’s Glue is an easy way to remove clogged pores and blackheads from your skin.”

While Dr. Youn coins it as more of “a trick that is a nice option for people who are in a pinch,” he does say it has its place.

“Although it doesn’t work for everyone, many people find that spreading a small amount of Elmer’s glue on your nose, letting it dry, and peeling it off can remove oil and blackheads,” he says. “I don’t recommend it for general or frequent use because the substance isn’t made for the facial skin and could paradoxically cause irritation or even clog pores if it’s not removed all the way. Some people are also allergic to the glue, so be warned. But, in a pinch when you don’t have a Biore strip handy, this can work for some people.”
