Rushing to pack your gym bag in the early morning with glazed-over eyes is, by far, one of the most stressful ways to start the day. But with trendy fitness classes becoming more and more popular, those sunrise sweat sessions are now suddenly the norm. Unfortunately, the mixture of sweat, bacteria and makeup can wreak serious havoc on your skin if not taken care of properly, so we decided to ask top fitness pros what they actually use after a workout in order to keep their skin and hair looking it’s best at all times. With these recommended products already stashed in your gym bag, you’ll be able to keep your skin clear and avoid the early morning, pre-gym scramble altogether (and maybe even snag a few extra minutes of sleep). “Thanks to a strict regimen and routine facials, I’m lucky to have pretty clear skin,” says Cohen. “I do have to stay consistent with my skin care though or I find myself breaking out more.” Cohen’s products of choice typically include the Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Correction Pads ($40), and a daily application of benzoyl peroxide. “I finish with a very thin layer of benzoyl peroxide over my entire face to prevent breakouts and dry out blemishes,” she explains.
During a workout, dirt and oil can get trapped in your pores, which is why it’s super important to dissolve away the buildup post-workout. Guarrasi swears by Aveeno Positively Radiant Makeup Removing Wipes ($7) and Epicuren Refresh Aloe Cucumber Mist ($37) to clear buildup on the skin and prevent breakouts. Erika Rayman, Founder of the DB Method
When it comes to post-workout beauty, Rayman religiously uses the following three products: Sunday Riley Juno Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil ($90), NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30 ($45), and Ouai Hair Oil ($28). “I’m oil obsessed,” explains Rayman. “Face, hair, lips, body—I love to slather on oils like Sunday Riley’s because it soaks into your skin instead of sitting on the surface and clogging pores.”
After partaking in a high-sweat workout that includes both boxing and yoga, Young stresses the importance of a good, post-sweat sesh cleansing routine. “I swear by the Kiehl’s Ultimate Man Body Scrub Soap ($15) as my face wash,” she says. “The exfoliant is just gentle enough without bothering your face, and then I follow up with the Orlane Super Moisturizing Concentrate ($140).” Her last gym bag must-have? George’s mantra for post-workout beauty is a good one to remember for yourself: “You’ve worked out hard to make the body look good, don’t forget to have the hair and skin to match!” So, after a workout, George cleanses her skin and applies a blemish-fighting tinted moisturizer. “I always use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleansing Cloths ($7) on my face and shoulders to remove any dirt and sweat,” she says. “I follow that with Garnier SkinActive Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream ($13) on my face to even out the skin tone while providing anti-aging and antioxidants benefits to my skin as well.”
Considering hot yoga is a high-sweat activity, keeping the skin clean is a top priority for Levey. “I always wash my face after a workout with Cetaphil Skin Cleanser ($14) followed by an application of the Ogee Jojoba Restore Facial Oil ($44),” she explains. “I use one pump of Cetaphil on a damp face and wash my face with my hands, making sure I get every last piece of soap off because residual can cause breakouts. For the oil, I put it directly on my forehead and both cheeks with the dropper and then press into my face with my fingertips.”
