It’s February 1, which means it’s officially American Heart Month—a time to spread awareness for the pervasive, devastating impacts of cardiovascular disease and provide life-saving information on all things heart health. To kick off the ever-so important month, the American Heart Association hosted their annual Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection Concert to help raise awareness for heart disease in women.

Did you know that cardiovascular disease is the number-one leading cause of death amongst women, with 1 in 3 deaths caused by heart disease in women each year? Before last night, I did not, but after spending time on the red carpet talking to the incredible women participating in this year’s Go Red for Women initiative, my passion for heart health awareness and admiration for the millions of women suffering from heart disease has increased tenfold.

While on the carpet, I had the pleasure of speaking with Brandi Rhodes—American wrestling ring announcer, fitness guru, model and former pro wrestler and figure skater. With such an extensive background in sports and fitness—and having looked so amazing doing it all—I was eager to know just how the 40-year-old stays looking and feeling her best. Ahead, Rhode’s biggest piece of on-screen beauty advice, her 2024 self-care ins and outs and what heart health means to her.

What does heart health awareness and the American Heart Association mean to you?

“When I was first entering the wrestling industry, I worked a lot on partnerships and initiatives, and one of the first organizations I worked with was the American Heart Association. With such a big platform, it felt really important for me to help spread awareness about heart and cardiovascular health to our audience. So, in a way, I’ve been married to the American Heart Association and what they stand for from the start.”

Being a part of the entertainment industry for so long and having done such physical performances while on camera, what is your biggest piece of on-screen beauty advice?

“That’s a tough one, but honestly, I would say sleep. When you feel tired, you look tired, and that’s when I feel like I don’t look my best. So getting sleep—the most amount of sleep and the best quality sleep you can—is huge.”

In terms of self care, what’s one thing you’re bringing into 2024 and one thing you’re leaving behind?

“What I’m leaving behind is trying to please everyone. You can’t ever do it, it’s impossible. So this year I’m trying to let that go and just do what I can for my own peace. In terms of what I’m bringing in, I’d say focussing on myself a little bit more. I have a two year old, so it’s really easy to make everything about her and neglect myself in the process. So, this year, I’m making more time for me.”
