Chrissy Metz Fires Back at Body Shamers and Critics of Her Red Latex Look
By Tatiana Bido, Features Editor |
This Is Us star Chrissy Metz did what all the stars do at the MTV Movie & TV Awards this weekend, she took a fashion risk. Instead of her usual flowy, simplified style, she chose a red latex mini-dress for a bold, edgier look. And because the internet seems to be overrun with anonymous body shamers, she was put in the position of having to defend her daring fashion choice.

The actress took to Twitter to set the record straight—she really doesn’t care what anyone else thinks! Soon after posting her inspiring response, her fans and followers backed the body positive star up with messages of admiration and support.
For the record, I wear what I want, when I want. News flash it's— Chrissy Metz (@ChrissyMetz) May 8, 2017

Metz’s stylist Jordan Grossman spoke with People about the now infamous dress. He says the design took a year to come to fruition and nothing was going to ruin this moment for her. “She does not care about anyone’s opinions as long as she feels good and looks great. It was a [fashion] moment she’s been wanting for a long time,” he said. “Regardless what anyone said or says it’s really her moment so they can’t take that away from her.”
For all internet haters that considered plus-size latex to be a fashion misstep, Grossman says there are just as many out there who are inspired to take more fashion risks and wear materials, cuts and colors you wouldn’t normally see on a curvier woman. “In the beginning, it was seeing what works and what doesn’t, and now it’s become an inspiring thing to people around the world to see a plus-size girl can wear a latex dress, or shiny skirt or bold patterns,” adds Grossman. “We get so many Facebook and Instagram messages from women saying, ‘I would love to wear something like this and now I know it’s possible for me to wear something like this.'”
