I think we can all agree that taking a photo of a fellow gym-goer and publicly mocking their body is a very bad idea. British bodybuilder Diana Andrews must have missed the memo because the Londoner, who has more than 17,000 Instagram followers, is under fire for sharing a picture of a woman working out at her gym with the caption “love handles.” In the ensuing snap, she also implied that the woman was ordering food while working out: “I bet she’s ordering [hamburger emojis] for delivery.”

In case you missed it, last year Playboy model Dani Mathers posted a snap on social media of an unsuspecting naked woman in the gym locker room with the caption, “If I can’t unsee this than you can’t either.” That mean-spirited act resulted in a Mathers being charged with a misdemeanor count of invasion of privacy. Just as in that case, Andrews’ followers didn’t find the snaps amusing and quickly pointed out that they were anything but funny.

After the backlash, Andrews quickly set all of her social media accounts to private, but not before issuing a series of apologies on her Snapchat and Facebook pages. However, her apologies did little to quell the fury of the internet. Perhaps it was her attempt to shift blame from herself to the way the posts appeared, which she believes is out of context:
“I want to explain my self for what I have done Tuesday evening after my training session. I saw this girl walking on the treadmill, talking on her phone, and I made a video and added a comment that she’s probably ordering take away. The whole point of this video was that she’s using her phone while on the treadmill. The whole story was turned upside down by taking a screenshot and adding comments that I’m body shaming this woman. I would never do this, it’s not who I am. I’m always encouraging people to do their best and push themselves. I’m here to motivate, especially women, not to be afraid and get that work done. People that know me know I’m not a bully. . . I deeply regret that I took that video.”
Hopefully Andrews learns her lesson and understands that mocking different body types at the gym where people go to maintain a healthy lifestyle is not OK. In the meantime, despite her halfhearted attempt at an apology, the people of the internet remain unconvinced.
