When supermodel Bella Hadid is trying to look her best before a big runway show or modeling gig, she frequently turns to nutritionist Dr. Charles Passler. Yes, he’s there to help keep her slim physique operating at optimum levels through healthy eating, but he also provides her with tips to make her skin glow from the inside out—no topical products or dermatologist visits required.

According to Dr. Passler, all it takes is three simple supplements to amp up anyone’s complexion. His first choice? Chlorophyll drops due to their ability to detox the body. “These drops are very helpful to boost the radiance of your skin because they help remove toxins from your digestive tract which, according to traditional Chinese Medicine, has a direct effect on skin quality,” Dr. Passler says. If you’re looking to give chlorophyll drops a try, mix them with water or juice and sip while eating breakfast.

Another top recommendation from Dr. Passler is none other than vitamin C. “Vitamin C is essential for every phase of collagen formation, but you have to take a buffered version of it to get therapeutic levels without forming stomach upset,” he explains. Because vitamin C supplements are in the form of ascorbic acid, many people suffer stomach discomfort with the acidic form of vitamin C. To counteract this, look for vitamin C supplements with calcium, magnesium or potassium mineral salts in them (these are known as “bases” and allow the pH levels to be more alkaline). This mix is generally better tolerated and allows for higher dosages to be taken without stomach discomfort.

Finally, increase the vitality of your skin cells by opting for coQ10, not only is this a complexion-booster, but it’s also been proven to help ameliorate symptoms of conditions like congestive heart failure, making this supplement a win-win all around. “CoQ10 helps to produce energy inside skin cells as well as other parts of the body,” Dr. Passler explains. “Many of the better topical creams for skin also contain this nutrient.”

So, the next time you’re looking for supplements to improve skin quality, give these three a try. Considering they’re celebrity nutritionist-approved, we can’t help but be intrigued.
