The New Year ushers in fresh possibilities for a stylish start. Here, our experts share tips to create a modern makeover that transcends the ever-changing fashions of our time.

Color

Chad Kenyon

Warm Tones

Inspired by the rich tones of leather, the “Cowboy Copper” hair color trend is going viral for featuring a warm and versatile shade that combines autumnal hues, including caramel, brunette and red. Celebrity colorist Chad Kenyon says the recipe for achieving a warmer look comes down to blending. “Using a formula mixed with Olaplex, I combined three equal parts of three auburn shades which I balayaged from root to ends to create dimension and movement.” After washing he applied Olaplex Pro 4-in-1 Moisture Mask to drench the hair in bond-building moisture.

If starting with a lighter tone, Kenyon recommends multiple salon visits to maintain it. To top it off, Kenyon used the Olaplex Volumizing Blow Dry Mist ($30), “which gives super ‘clean’ body while strengthening hair for beautiful body and bounce,” he says.

Eyes

Tim Quinn

Radiant Glam

Celebrity makeup artist Tim Quinn says if you want a glowing, youthful complexion at any age, the secret lies in skin preparation. “I love doing a radiant, natural look with subtle enhancements. For my longtime friend and client Alana Stewart, it’s all about the eyes. Brightening is essential, so I used Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer SPF 27 ($75), mixed with a touch of Halo42 Eye Oil ($110). To keep her complexion dewy, I used Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation ($69) with a drop of Halo42 Face Elixir ($96). Apply your foundation sparingly with a damp Beautyblender ($20),” he says. “Maintaining a balanced and harmonious palette is crucial for this look.”

To emphasize the eyes, Quinn says he used Lancôme Idôle Tint Liquid Eye-Blusher in N°6 Canyon Rose, which doubles as a dewy cheek blush. “A trick Alana taught me 20 years ago was to only use a bit of translucent powder along the lash line to prevent flaking or smudging of liner and mascara.”

Skin

D’Andre Michael

Age Rewind

Celebrity makeup artist and aesthetician D’Andre Michael says that concealing fine lines, wrinkles and evening out your skin tone, as he did with fellow makeup artist Suzy Diaz, will give the skin a blurring effect. For a luscious lip look, Michael used Chanel Le Crayon Lèvres Longwear Lip Pencil ($35) in shade Nude Brun topped with the Chanel Rouge Coco Bloom Hydrating Plumping Intense Shine Lip Colour ($45) in 150. “Apply the liner slightly above and outside the natural lip line,” he says. “I then applied the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder ($60) to her face and used an illuminating oil along her neckline for a lit-from-within look.” To sculpt her features he lightly brushed Chanel Oversize Illuminating Face Powder ($95) in Warm Gold across hight points of her forehead, nose and cheeks.

Blot the lips for a seamless blend. For an intense effect, deepen the color in the corners and blend,” he says. “Set with Beautyblender’s BOOST 4-in-1 Firming Peptide Setting Spray ($33).

Hair

Marlena Orlowska

Damage Repair

To get an instant refresh, begin by eliminating damaged ends for a healthier regrowth. Constant lightening of the hair can leave it dry and lacking shine and shape. Paul Labrecque Salon master hairstylist Marlena Orlowska suggests opting for a sophisticated longer bob or “lob,” noting the modified length offers more flexibility. “Revitalizing color with a K18 Molecular Repair Pre-Coloring Treatment first is always recommended. For this look, I applied a Redken gloss using a balayage technique which adds lightness and creates a reflective tone that helps strands look healthier.” She says this length is a chic, wearable “commitment-free option without the dull ends.

Master stylist Paul Labrecque says to tackle hair health at the root he recommends Biologique Recherche Complexe Cegaba + Bioproline Hair Loss Serum.
