- Obagi Blue Peel
A facial chemical peel that is applied by a skin-care professional, and includes the active ingredient trichloroacetic acid, which is mixed with the patented Blue Base from Obagi. Following the procedure, the skin turns slightly blue, which washes away within 24 hours. The skin peels then heals within seven to 10 days.
This dermatological disorder results in the adverse pigmentation of cartilage, skin and/or eyes, from a long-term buildup of phenylalanine or tyrosine. (Phenylalanine is an amino acid which is one of the many amino acids needed to build the protein molecule. It is present in many sugarless gums and mints, snack foods and sugarless soft drinks. Tyrosine is also an amino acid.) Pigmented cartilage may appear blue, and to a lesser degree, this may be true for skin with dermal deposition of this pigment. Use of certain medications like hydroquinone has been shown to induce the condition, but this reaction is extremely rare.
