We’ve already told you how bromelain, an enzyme found predominately in the stems of pineapples as well as the fruit itself, is beneficial for post-surgical healing, but there are a few other noteworthy benefits that may have you adding this tropical fruit to your grocery list on a regular basis.

Weight Loss
While there isn’t much research to say whether or not bromelain can help you lose weight, many people swear by its ability to help them shed excess pounds. In the same way that enzymes work to break down and digest foods, some preliminary research suggests that bromelain might actually digest fat within the body, breaking it down and turning it into waste.

First discovered for its ability to help heal burn wounds through debriding, a process in which damaged tissue is removed to help speed up the healing process, bromelain can work topically as powerful exfoliator by working to remove and slough away dead skin cells.

Bromelain is loaded with anti-inflammatory properties that have been found to help calm inflammation and reduce swelling.
